Whats the low down on Heaven Bright leds. Buy or not buy? Let me note that I'm not an advocate or hater of this brand. Just noticed that many people are downing this brand and wanted to get the skinny before I purchased. I appreciate the food and the bad. BTW, I've only used CLW before.

My dislike for the owner of the company is no secret and I'm not alone in this. Don't care for his apparent lack of ethics and the way he talks down to others that disagree with him. I know he had some early quality control issues and he should have sorted that out long ago so he may have a good product now. But that said,I would never tell anyone to buy his lights. Just my biased two cents.

Many of these COB based grow companies haven't been around for a while and that's really what I would worry about if I was resigned to buy a COB grow light as (oppossed to making one which is what you should do actually). No interest in Are51's COB offering? They are quite established compared to MANY LED grow light companies. I can't speak for the rest really, I would go with PLC just because of the owner. And I keep the owner of HB on ignore so you should know that too.

+1 DIY

DIY builds are fun and cheap to do but may not stack well in comparison to commercial-based fixtures for beginners. While the concept of assembling cob-based fixtures has been repeatedly demonstrated by many here, including myself, there's a bunch to be taken in that happens with lots of practice, which can be costly. In short, if it's your first diy build, don't expect your own fixture to be running in par with commercial fixtures.

@hotshotisdashit

Captainmorgan has a right to not like me, as I've been known to start shit with him and Area51, so we're naturally prone to butt heads. Area 51 has been building led fixtures for awhile now but started building cob fixtures around late summer of last year.

As for Fran, I don't know what their deal is with me exactly. They seem very good at finding and pasting succulent LED news articles though, so we thank you Franny,

As for the rest of em' that don't take lightly of me, they'll say one thing but are truly bonded to one of the other cob fixture company owners from this site, plain and simple as that. I'll butt heads with anyone who needs it but am naturally inclined to sympathize and assist with anyone who isn't apart of a special interest group or following. As for my customers, they have nothing but great things to say about me, especially when comparing my service to other cob based companies, no names that need mentioned.

If you haven't already, check out robincnn's fixtures at https://northerngrowlights.com.

Thanks for the reply Captain. Ive seen many of your posts and think you are a G in the game. However Ive noticed that you and Aquarius dont get along. But my goal is to gather info on the light itself. At least you didnt shit on the light. Just the person. LOL.

Understood fully . But tbh im just not going to build one at this time. I have a wife, 3 young kids, a full time job and care for my 1000 watt and 600 watt hps garden. Now I may make it a summer project and see what I can accomplish. And yes im familiar with area 51. Most established of them all. (Sorry I left them out) It's just that they seem to never be in stock. And many times you have to prepay and preorder. .not my thing. I am hip to greengenes pacific lighting concepts. He's a great grower. So I may consider his as well.

AP thanks for the input. I may just try a couple of different lights initially. See how they compare to each other. Ill give one of your lights a go for sure. Maybe the mothership. They seem to be better priced for the same/similiar panel. But dude, it just seems that youve put youself between a rock and a hard place with some of these guys and im sure its swaying customers away. Sometimes you just have to keep your mouth closed. Sorry for any rudeness.

WTF ?!?
Seriously ? For the price of one of your fixtures, just about anyone can expect to DIY a MUCH better fixture. A little time consuming, sure, maybe a little challenging at the start, but at the end, (much) better performance, and a more rewarding experience too.

EG : Your mothership, with it's close to 100W driven cobs, according to your website :

PPF: 1100~1275
Wattage : 580~605W
Price : 900$ (CXB3590)

Lets see :
2 x HLG 240H-C1750 - 200$
8 x CXB3590 3500 CD with lens and holder - 400$
2 x 56" 5.886 HSUSA profile : 215$
Some wiring and equipment at home depot : 85$

Total 900$

The DIY option is PASSIVE vs ACTIVE cooling for the same price, and most importantly, gives off close to 20% more light per watt. Or put differently, will give off a little more light, for a lower wattage, I see a tripple win for the DIY. Maybe that's just me tho

Now if you mean "not on par" performance wise, yes that's true, the DIY will beat your light by a mile.

Oh, btw, I am in no way affiliated with ANY of your competitors ...

Some people have to buy tools too.
Though those aren't very costy.

It's mostly very time consuming the first time and probably gives people some stress.

The best bang for your buck is TastyLED. Rahz builds 1,2,3 and 4 cob bars that you can use alone and in combinations in tents up to 5x5 with great coverage. He pays great attention to detail, right down to the round head hex screws. Pacific Light Concepts is a close second and Greengenes707 has the sharpest looking housing of the square/rectangle lamps. That is, until it was copied...Hmm. My opinion.

But im sure all diy cobs can be made for cheaper. So I guess theres no need for commercial cobs at all?

Not sure of how it works but heaven bright seems to have the best prices per watt. But forgive me as im not well versed as others in the specs and other details of the cob. So what do I know.

Thought I would say this for the record. I've never been employed, partnered or paid to promote any light company. For years I would mainly recommend two LED companies,Area 51 and Apache Tech. I've bought more than a few A51 lights and promoted them here because they were a great light at a very nice price and my grows that I documented here show that, GG was a Apache Tech user and documented them well here too. What made up my mind to try A51 was Jeff's no bullshit honest approach with his lights,no ridiculous claims and honest answers to any question, down to the bins he uses for his lights,he was the first I know of to do this openly. Jeff has some haters here but is a great guy and I consider him a friend,he's not a ass kisser and will call people out for bullshit. I recently started my own LED light company and am building custom lights for growers in my home state and this is the first time I have openly said I'm in business, not trying to sell lights here. There is much more competition now for lights with quality parts which is great for growers and we'll just have to wait and see who's lights are preferred.

Thought I should add,GG is a stand up guy and would recommend his PLC lights to anyone.

Never doubted your sincerity. As mentioned I know youre an og in these parts. But thanks for notifying us that you are in business. Do you plan on selling to online customers? Im sure youll make a great light.
