How many CXB3590 would be recommended to replace a single 1000 watt hps? Or better yet 90 square feet of grow area?

Hey all, i'm new around here and need some help planning for lighting in my Gorilla 4x4 tent . Im looking to light 4 plants total, and the hydro buckets and reservoir occupy a 38inch by 36 inch space out of the 4x4. Now i'm not sure with what lighting set up and how much i would need for the 4 plants. I started off wanting a Mars Hydro because of the cost but looking further into the quality and the lights failing, it put me off. Same with platinum LED, and their company. Then i found Growmau5's and his grow kit. I have no experience at all with DIY electronics but his videos are really informative. Amare look really cool but are kind of pricey, are they worth the hype? So now i need help with lighting decisions, and set up, i appreciate whatever advice you can throw at me.

I think any company offering Cree cobs would be the best. They are worth the hype according to my research too. I'm going with Amare, victor is a stand up guy and the warranty is great.

aim for 25 watts to 45 watts per square foot, depending on your grow style.
So if I used 12 3590's per 4 x 4 area that would be more than sufficient? I would guess I would run them at 1400 ma? I just learned of these lights so still learning. thanks!

Ya but 8 would be fine. If doing 12 isn't a problem, do it. Shit, do 16!
Looks very nice, I think I would just do 12 though, I would be switching from 1000 hps and definitely do not want to lose anything and want to have very good coverage. I need to cover 90 square feet in one room and about 40 square feet in another.

Would setting them about 15" apart from each other be sufficient? Lens recommended?

Hello individuals that I will refer to as experts. I am new to the site and relatively new to growing, new to smoking for that matter (just started smoking regularly in the last year or so for treatment to deal with cancer meds side effects). First let me say that I am currently growing in a grow box that is 3' by 4' and 7' tall with a 600 watt metal halide for veg and 600 watt HPS for flowering. I also have a 6 in inline fan running through the HID reflector to remove heat. I hope to grow medication of around 4 plants at a time, but I also have a small area that is 2' by 3' and 5' tall that I can propagate clones and germinate seeds in that I am using a T5 light for. In the winter time I tried a grow and succeed in growing my first cannabis plant (I am a old research biologist and use to study plant-insect interactions so I have grown quite a few plants in my life time; the irony of moving from a huge research greenhouse with 1000 watt HIDs all around to a 3'x4' space is quite humorous). Unfortunately, I will need to grow in the summer also to keep enough medication in stocked and even more unfortunately the summer is way to hot. While I currently have plants "growing", the temperatures are floating between 80-95 degrees Fahrenheit so it may actually be more a slow dying. I cannot run air conditioning out because the grow box is in my garage and growing cannabis is still illegal, even medicinally, in my state (despite my doctor say do whatever helps lol). This brings me to why I need LEDs light, for heat reduction, plus I would like to work on plant chemical production to make more potent medication.

This is where you all come in, I am seeking your advice about which LED light to purchase. I have done quite a bit of research (with 30 years of research experience mind you :P) and the fact is that I do not feel like I know any more than I did when I started a few months back. Every time I start to get excited about a light set up, I hit a forum or website where there are loads of individuals that state reasons why the brand is terrible. Here are the lights that I have narrowed down too, off course I may be way off base but that is why you are here :). Please note that I am purchasing larger lights to get better penetration but this may not be best. Additionally, while cost is not really an obstacle (can't really take money with you) I do not want to waste money on junk.

For the 3'x4' space either:
NeoSol DS (520W) or may be just NeoSol™ NS (300W) or maybe two of the latter (wattage wise these seem a little expensive and I could not find to many comparisons)
Amare SolarECLIPSE SE450+UVB
BML SPYDR 600 GROW-MAX SPECTRUM
Black Dog PHYTOMAX 600 LED GROW LIGHTS
Apache Tech 200

For the 2'x3' space I could keep the T5 light, but it still seems to put off quite a bit of heat and ventilation is not great in this section of the grow box or I could try one of the following:
PHYTOMAX 200 LED GROW LIGHTS

Amare SolarSPEC SS100CR

Thanks in advance for your advice, I am sure that this is embedded in this forum but with over 454 pages seems like I would struggle to find the relevant information.

Fidoh I'm not a professional grower but I have spend hundreds of hours here reading and also done a fair share of trial and error with lighting.

A couple recommendations are first I'd say possibly looking into some auto flowering strains that are specific for high cbd, I know for sure dinafem carries one strain that is low in thc which is great for medicinal purposes. Autos aren't for everyone but for myself and many others they seem to fit perfectly. First off if your new to growing the higher chance of failure is always there. With strains taking 60-80 days there is first a faster turn around but also a faster crop to produce again if shit hits the fan. Many auto strains out there produce huge numbers too. If things are done properly with veg and flowering you could see a new crop in as little as 45 days. Smaller yields but more of them, I'd say it's a lot less risk with a minimum yearly yield decrease.

I posted a message about my take on lightings in another thread I will dm you . Hps has always been the work horse with little debate about yields. But heat is the real killer. I believe cobs are the future. I have spent countless hours researching cobs in general before I spent any time really in the cobs directed towards growing. They work and they work well with little heat per watt.

I see you mentioned the solarspec! I have spent the last week talking to the owner victor from Amare. He seems to be a real nice guy with a true love for the plants and has tremendous knowledge on lighting. He ended a 20 year retirement to take the lighting industry back from the terrible mess and false claims we are dealing with today.

With determination I think anyone can grow pretty damn good mj. I went from knowing absolutely nothing about growing, not even a cucumber in dirt to 3 months later with a few full mason jars of primo crop.

Amare all day! Ask him about his new lights the SES-300 (SolarEclipseSolo). They are 32" long x 8" wide. They will provide the best coverage in a 4' space. 2 of them would kill it. The 450 would do great to. I have one now. My plants & I love it! Good luck with everything. image.jpgimage.jpg
