So when you stake them down, you're not actually pinning the branch against the ground right? You're branches are still heald up by the stem?

I would lean the plant over and stake it down just a few inches off the ground. I used the sticks to hold them down so if the sun did draw them up, the stick would pull out of the ground. With string, you can cut into the stalks.

I know now this wasn't the best way to do it, but I would put two or three plants in a single hole and stake them out in different directions. There is a couple of fields of young pines with the makings of a great crop of weeds, so I may do a few like that this year.
 
I moved all the seedlings out to holding grounds today. The 5 F1's to where I have the CP1's, BST1's and BST2's. I took the 3 remaining 4-20 plantings {SOL, CPDA and BP} to where they will be planted, in last year's SOL patch. I sunk the pots. Too young yet to transplant. I did have to cut a lot of trees and grapevines to get some sun. The patch has grown up a ton since last season.

The older plants in the holding grounds are just about ready to transplant, but I just didn't have time to do any of them today.

Even the young BST{not sure if it's a 1 or a 2, but it's in a square pot, so it's one or the other} is growing. Amazing what a little sunshine will do.

I'm juggling as fast as I can, and I'm not sure if I can keep up with my plan for plants in all 70+ holes that I have dug. I have already gifted 6 holes to my BIL, but there are 12 more I'm thinking about giving him. When I get all the plants in the holding grounds into the dirt, I will take stock and see how much more I can handle.
 
It'll be awesome if they make it to maturity. I'm not that educated in what these terms mean when you call plants: BST1 or 2, CP1's etc. Can you tell me what all that means? Are they all females?

The BST's are Bag Seed Testers. The first two bags of weed I have bought in the last 12 years. I put out some of the BST2's yesterday, and they are stinky as shit @ 9" tall.

Everything else is my Sidetracked: strain. Look back on page 2 of this thread, post 39. It will {try to} explain. But last year's plants were named after the patch location, then by size. Thus CP1 was the tallest plant in the CP patch. I should go ahead and say CP1 X Slo1, or GV2 X GV5.

So far I haven't seen any of my Sidetracked: plants show male. There was one BST1 that went into early flower and developed balls. {I killed him yesterday} I'm hoping for a few males so I can pick the best looking one, but this strain is heavily tilted toward the females. My BIL hadn't had a male in 3 years, but then he only grows 15-20 a year. Last year I had to stress the plants to make a couple three of them flip to male. I'm hoping that won't be necessary this year.

I'm working on improving my Sidetracked: strain, so I need that many plants to get a few males. This strain doesn't make very many males, which is a good thing if you are worried about weight. Not so good when you are looking for that golden bean.
 
Yesterday was a good transplanting day, so I got a few plants in the ground. First off I carried 5 BST2's to the GN patch. I killed the BST1 male that was there. I do want some males from them, but I don't think that will be a problem. I had one more plant than holes to put them in, so I did one hole double. That is 5 BST2's and 2 BST1's in the GN patch.

Here is one of the young ones I put in.

Just as I was getting ready to go into the woods near the GN patch, a jogger came by. A dude this time. Two weeks ago a lady came by on the road as I was coming out of the woods, but that was from a driveway. I knew that a little old lady had a doctor's appointment and I cut through her yard, saving me lots of time. One the way out, I had sat in her yard and smoked a bowl, then ran into the lady just a minute or so later. Kind of freaked me out. Both times.
 
Later I got over to the HR patch and put in 4 GV1's and 1 GV3. I had to finish one hole, and dig another one. I carried in two bags of mixed plant food. Each one got 1 cup each of 13-13-13, 9-6-12, 13-7-13, 12-5-7, perlite and coffee grounds. Also 3/4 cup lime and 1/4 Epson salts.

I couldn't find the 6th hole I had dug a couple weeks ago, so that makes two lost holes and two misplaced bags of plant food in the HR patch. But 12 plants is plenty. If I find the holes, I will fill them. If not, no worries.

From there I went on down to the big woods and the PH patch. There was 6 holes to fill and only 5 GV2's, so I used the other GV3 down there. I used three knots in a piece of paracord on the GV3 to keep them straight. I like having all the same kind in a patch to make it easier, but it just didn't work out. {the GV3 is right at the elbow of the old downed tree} I found a bag of mixed plant food for six more holes I had planned deeper in the woods. The 6 holes in the PH patch were right at the edge of the recent flood, so I figured the time released food in them has released, so I added a cup to each hole.

I had 11 of the GV1's, 2's and 3's, so there was no way I could pack in 11 gallons of soil mix, plus the water and fertilizer, so I just used about five gallons between them. Still a very heavy pack.

what sort of a pack is that? I use maxpedition and I just love it for the rest of the summer after all the soil has been taken out in he bigger bags.

There is no name or trademark brand on it anywhere. I picked it up at the Goodwill for $20 5-6 years ago. It was pretty well used then, and has seen nothing but hard use since. {as you can see} It has the two big side pockets, a front pocket, bottle holder, plus two flashlight {or knife} pockets.

I have a couple of smaller canvas Army packs that I really like to use. They hold the two 1 gallon water jugs, so that is what I have been carrying more than the big one. But it is according to what I'm doing.
 
You're the first guy I've chatted with who uses one of those shovels. What do you think of it? Yeah, you're pack looks good. I've never shaken away the love for a good patrol pack. The army for me was many moons ago but wearing a good pack and being out in the woods growing and being naughty...ah, it's the life of champions and happy people. I had 4 of the 6 plants I put out last week ate by the deer. I lost 1 CP1 and 1 Slo2, and 2 more were topped by the deer, but looked like they were going to live. I planted one hole double, and just left the other one alone.

So 26 + 6 - 2 = T-Pig of 30.

and what's with the parachute cord? Something to self girdle the tree trunks if they get too big? :smile: You have any easy, sensible way about you L{t}G; it's been an enjoyable walk in the woods with you. I'm looking forward to the rest of the season.

I do not really like the shovel for hole digging, but they are cheap and you can pick one up at just about any Army/Navy surplus store. I can dig a pretty good hole with it, but just because my of my sandy soil. You can put your foot to it, but it is hard for an old man like me because it's so short. I have a short handled shovel I use a lot, but I only had one hole to dig on Thursday. As far as transplanting, it works great. Some of my holes were dug in December, so there is a fair amount of new roots growing to the fertilizer. I turn the dirt real good before putting the plant in to get rid of them.

That is a nice pack. I have several Army packs from "some east block nation that no longer needs them" as Larry McMurtry would say. Some of them very nice, but most are heavy as hell. I don't know why we used packs with frames for so long.

I like to top my plants before transplanting, but these did not have 6 nodes yet. I could have waited another week. The roots were just barely holding the dirt together. But I had started too many plants at once, and had to get some of them in the ground when I could. But I may not top the ones I put in the PH patch. They need to get as tall as possible to fight for light. But in good sun, I top a lot. Most of the plants in the BP and HR patches already have four main tops.
