Prince

Our reactions to his death sound very similar, I'm still grieving. His music and philosophy meant a lot to me as a kid, I only listened to classical music for years before I heard Prince. That opened up the world of pop music to me, but nobody compared to what he was doing. Strange to feel that way about someone who never knew you existed. Hearing about the drugs was difficult, what seems to be coming out now really disillusioned me. Oh well, he was only human like the rest of us...
Yep, hit the nail on the head. I admired his discipline in both his musical process and personal life, so the drug thing was hard. not because I thought he was immune, but b/c he had so much going for him and so much left! How was there room for an opiate addiction? :-/ Though music was his addiction.

The depth and breadth of his musical knowledge/innovation is and will always be astounding. There are so few who change the course of music in our culture. He was one of the biggest on so many levels. SHit now Im depressed again.:cuss:

There is one thing that bugs me though. I keep hearing about Prince being really intolerant of drugs. For example, if you went on tour with Prince you swore off of all drugs, even booze and weed. But I have also heard that he was pretty gracious when it came to paying for occasional rehab for employees - well ex-employees.

So it feels to me like there might of been some barriers to his getting treatment that he might have set up himself. Society needs to drop these barriers. The shame they cause is a result of decades of us casting drug abuse or dependancy as a sickness of the poor and minorities.

Barriers Schmarriers, he was indeed "intolerant" of drugs for his crew, etc which is why it stings all the more that he was hiding HIS habit. We all know he was a control freak, but that hypocrisy doesn't sit well.

So, that's it. Too bad, man. I've finally arrived at acceptance, took me over a month to grieve for him. He is like a messiah, though. He's dead, but has 2500+ fully produced and finished songs in his vaults. I heard on the radio that if NPG was to release an album per year, it would be a couple of hundred years of new releases! Death can't even stop him. Pretty bad ass. Thanks, bro. RIP...

So he's going to be like Tupac? Lol

Maybe he faked his death and is living in Cuba with Tupac.....

Doesn't diminish his legacy in the least bit. Fentynl kills with a quickness, the trend is on the rise. He barely weighed over a buck and NO he did not have AIDS or whatever else bs tabloids said. He had every reason to live, he just made a mistake.

we are all fallible.

Sucks to hear. The trend is definitely on the rise. Fentynl is really powerful. He must have been in some major pain.

Sounds more like Prince was a hypocrite when it came to drugs. Just like Rush Limbaugh...
