U.S. Driving High - Got any tips?

Final Phase

News agencies are reporting higher arrests for driving high in states that have gone recreational. Forty years ago I was doing the same. Driving and smoking at the same time... Roaches filled the ashtray... I was followed for 10 miles by a CHP who finally dropped back and crossed the freeway medium - I had a beer between my legs and a bunch of roaches in the ash tray. That night I decided to stop that behavior and am glad I did. Still going strong with never an arrest.

I'm thinking there are a lot of U.S. drivers who are now in line to learn the hard way. Hopefully people will wake up and be more careful - sooner the better.

What precautions do you employ in your life to avoid problems with police?

I have a terrible habit of smoking when I drive, I know I'm putting myself in danger every time I do. Here are couple things I do to minimize the risk of being pulled over.

I never drink and drive, not even one beer. Always make sure all my lights and blinkers work. I try not to drive after midnight if I don't have to. Always pay vehicle insurance so it's current. Never let my license tabs expire. Always drive the speed limit. Always use turn signals. Always come to full stop at signs and lights and never run yellow traffic lights. And always wear my seatbelt.

If I am pulled over, I am very polite and respectful.

exactly.
it makes your reflexes slower, etc.
In CA they give out DUIs for that all the time.
don't drive fucked up, if you kill someone or someone in your car gets hurt/maimed/ or killed?
and that's if you are just concerned about your own..
don't get me wrong, i'm guilty of it too, especially on hwy 80 or hwy I-5...
but I don't do it anymore, it's a serious thing here, insurance gets JACKED up

I remember once driving to new york from philly at like 90mph and changing my entire outfit while driving so I could arrive at a club in fresh clothes. never missed a beat either and never spilled my drink.
I haven't driven drunk for almost 20yrs. I was one of those people who swear drinking makes them better drivers. not true of course.
a young guy who worked for me once took his paycheck and went out partying with some young friends, drank, smoked and whatever else, then crashed the car killing two of his buddies. ive seen a lot of tragedy like that...its just not worth it.

I almost never smoke weed while driving unless I'm on a long road trip. I'm usually high while playing gigs, but I'll smoke before I leave, or most often I'll smoke up when parked after I arrive. I pay ALL parking and red light tickets immediately no matter how unfair, and I make sure all lights work on my car. I am very deferential to police whenever I'm forced to interact with them. It doesn't bother me much to do these things since I make my living by felony. If I have weed in the car, I drive like an old woman, if I don't I drive however I like. One of the best pieces of advice I've ever heard was, "don't break more than one law at a time"...

I think I drive better stoned. Everybody's different and I don't endorse it...and I'm talking a couple hits, not 100mg gummy bear after some shatter...but I am 2 X more cautious and won't go over speed limit. Also with all the assholes out there...you are less likely to get sucked into road rage when somebody pulls in front of you...You know now is not the time and let it go. NO BOOZE though...that shit will fuck you up.

I never smoke and drive, well atleast not in many years.. Smoke before I drive all the time but my car never smells of burnt weed.. I wear my seatbelt and drive with sense, I don't give them reason to fuck with me, feels good actually cuz I haven't always been so careful:mrgreen: Got pulled over a few days ago 44 in a 30 on a service rd. cops said "license and registration" handed him my license and reached for my reg and cop says " here, slow it down" and hands me back my license..:blsmoke:

First and foremost, be a white dude. It's a very shitty reality. I'm white, and married to an interracial woman who depending on how she styles her hair can pass as an extremely tan white girl. I've seen up close and personal the extra harassment her darker skinned family receives. Racial stuff aside...

If you're gonna ride dirty...do it on days it's raining. You wouldn't wanna stand out in the rain on your job would you? Cops don't either, you're less likely to be pulled over in the rain.

Keep your car clean. Inside and out. Stickers on your car are good way to get pulled over, so is stuff hanging from your review mirror. They're signs of lower income culture which to police is the highest rate of drug user (it's not...but you know cops).

Always have fully operating lights. Headlights, taillights, license plate lights, turn signal. Go the speed limit. Don't give them a reason.

Don't slow down if you see a cop, you look suspicious as fuck.

Have short hair. If you want dreads, walk everywhere. The car is where you will be promptly pulled over driving through any small Midwest town.

Don't ride dirty with your black friends and don't let your black friends ride dirty! Help them out if they need shit picked up. Until the oppressive and systememic racism is rooted out of American policing our black brothers and sisters who want to medicate will continue to be unfairly targeted. If you're white do what you can to help.

An especially important note for growers...don't look like you grow weed!

If you walk out of the house with long ass hair and a Pantera shirt and one day I see you come home with a Lowe's bag with four things of Diatomaceous Earth in it...I know what you're up to! And I'm a nice respectful guy and Im not gonna bother you...but if I can tell what you're up to...someone else might...and not everyone is as respectful as I am.

It sucks to not be able to make your appearance resemble who you are as a person but us cannabis growers have to take precautions for our own safety and keeping a professional, clean appearance goes a long way.
