I have used beer before it worked good,u can lay a board or log by u plant when sunny hot the slugs will hide under

Some of my plants are 15-20 yards apart. Would I have to put out bait {or beer} at every plant?

Yes, definitely. If it's anything like down here, those little suckers are everywhere. You don't have to put a lot, but you need some near every plant I would think.

There is nothing between me and the ground at my camp but a tarp. And a rug, an old sleeping bag, a quilt, a comforter, a couple of sheets. And now my cold weather sleeping bag. I have sweated the last night in that thing. So Spring has officially landed in Larry Land. Last night I put the sleeping bag at the bottom of the pile and put fresh sheets and pillow cases on. It's going to be padding until the Fall. I did still have to use a blanket because of the skeeters.

I did some work yesterday, putting GV1's in the HR patch, and GV2's in the PH patch. But there wasn't enough of either for the holes I needed to fill, so I put one GV3 in each patch. I've been having trouble with the Sharpie coming off my labels, so I went the paracord route. Since everything else in the patches are the same, I just used 3 knots in a cord as a label. Also did this with the BST2's I put in the GN patch. {two knots}

A couple of the GV1's in the HR patch. I got 12-13 tops from the 7 plants already there. I also FIM'ed one of them because I was trying to get as little of the top as possible. Now I know how they got that name.



This one is in a very open area. You can tell the extra sun is making it need more water. I gave all of them a drink, but had to save some for the transplants.

We have had a cool Spring. Last week we were in the 80's. but a cold front came through, and it was 53F this morning. It has rained quite a bit, and as long as it doesn't drowned my seedlings, I hope it keeps up. I already have too many to water, and will be putting out more when they are ready. All of these far flung patches will be pretty much on their own. The patches where I grew last year are closer by, so they will get more care. Soon I will be planting them.

I moved some dead logs to cover the bag of fertilizer I was leaving in the PH patch and uncovered this guy. Don't see very many brown ones like that.

I also came across this lighter'd {fat-wood} stump. This would give most of the You Tube bushcrafters a boner.

This does work well. A piece of copper pipe somewhere semi close to them also keeps them away..

Copper dos work in a circel around the plant,but beer is a lot cheep and I think it works beter for it kills the slugs and the copper dos not kill them the copper just makes them not cross the copper..ky

yup I would once plants get bigger they not problem, go in early an hand pic,or on sunny days look around that mulch under plants, they will be right there,little slimy owell

I catch rain at my camp, but haven't done anything at the patches yet. We've had plenty of rain up to now. I see only 1 day {Tuesday} out of the next 10 with any real chance. I will need to do something if it skips me. But after the plants get a good hold, they will be on their own for the most part. #Darwin Dope #Survival of the Dankest.

I got the bugout {AL} patch planted today. 7 CP1's and 3 CPDA's, although one of each is likely to die. They had a weak spot on the stem, so I just buried them deep and am going to hope for the best. Since there were only 8 holes in the patch, I had to dig two more, using 2 cups 13-13-13 and 1 cup 15-0-15. Will have to amend with everything else later.

Here is a CP1 in one of the newly dug holes. I kept the sod of topsoil intact and put it back around the plant.

Went by the camp to fill my water bottles,



then watered the three plants in the BP patch. You can see how they are responding to topping. I took 12-14 more tops today from the three plants.

For now, my transport issues have been resolved. I picked up a truckload of mushroom mulch yesterday. {the price had dropped from $20 down to $15} Now I have storage issues instead. Five swimming pools full of mulch. You can see the new kitty litter mix in progress in the background. I have a friend who works where the stuff is made. He brings me the rejects. This week it was a 50 pound bag.

I got to do a little work in the woods this morning. I topped some of the young plants in the HR patch. Note the intact topsoil. Some of the other holes without it was dug in a little bit. I think it also helps with water retention, but I may be wrong.



I did a little LOB {lean over baby} work on a few of the girls.

I found a few thrift store treasures for the camp last week.

More containers. One of which had a broken bail and was thrown in for free. The others were a buck each. {also a sleeping bag and a bunt pan}




I got a really nice Mojave 4 day pack for 2 bucks. Also to be used as storage totes, 3 pillow cases. They can double as wall hangings if I feel the need for decoration.

A topping update on the CP1 in the BP patch. I picked 8 tops off it yesterday. Might top one or two more times yet. I see I cut the top off the plant in all the pictures. Sorry about that.
