I always am impressed when I see their current farming set ups. Their greenhouse technology is pretty fantastic. I've seen greenhouse setups with thousands of gavitas. They made themselves the experts in Europe for cut flower production. Not an easy feat when you don't have crazy cheep labor and your sun is less than ideal. But it's a great way to make a good return off an acre. And being a small country they don't have many acres.

That's our advantage in our industry as well. Growing up doing field tomato, and occasional bean and corn, you need tons of space to make enough money to pay the bills. If you are growing cut flowers or our fav dried flowers, you need 1/100th the footprint. I could harvest 50 acres a day of tomato, I'm lucky if I can do 100 sq ft of herbs.
There is a lot of anger at the big guy, but we are blessed to have an industry available now that doesn't require vast sums of money to get going. Prices will go down, we've been a little too blessed maybe, but any guy or girl who can work hard enough to build a greenhouse will be able to micro farm themselves a future. Herb will always be different from tomato and corn.
Everyone is looking at Monsanto but it's John Deere who will change our game the most someday. When they make a fully mechanical harvester where you can just drive over fields and have nuggets shoot into a bin while leaves and stalks are dropped to the soil, that will make some pretty damn cheap shwag available. People who make oil will love the cheap and dirty. That or for pre rolls.

I don't want to compete with that industrial scale, or grow that way. I want to grow the best quality, in a greenhouse. There will always be people who buy micro brew, and those that buy bud light. You just won't be able to sell your stuff at micro brew prices, if your still growing bud light. A game time.

I want you to know that I'm thoroughly enjoying your perspective. Potheads have managed to convince themselves, perhaps with a lil help from hydro store marketing, that somehow what they do in their basement is special. Nothing could be further from the truth, and the future of legal cannabis will prove it beyond doubt.

There's a strong correlation between intelligence and the amount of kids someone has. Paranoia or not. People who have more than 2-3 kids also tend to have lower intelligence.

People who are against the use of contraceptives... well you get the picture...

China is not a very good sample to base this conclusion on because of there culture and gender bias. If it weren't for gender inequality in china it could've worked just fine. The only real issue is enforcing the solution to the problem because unfortunately people don't think what's best for humanity but rather themselves. This leads to divisive laws.

Who is to say it didn't work anyway? Population growth during that period could have been double what it was for all you know. You can't possibly what would have happened without a time machine.

There probably would have been more teen pregnancies in the US if it wasn't for the fact that most schools have a health program teaching kids about contraceptive and abstinence. (as well as a culture that shuns it)

Lol show me a country without gender inequality that still needs population control!

You're falling into a fascist trap; you can't just 'make' people do things like this. You need to create the right environment. Frankly, if it was going to work anywhere, China would be the ideal test case. They've fucked themselves demographically, and they know it. Hence why they did away with the policy.

Did you know that without immigration, America's population would be shrinking? Turns out this is the case for most first world industrialised nations. In other words, maybe your solution lacks a problem. Have you done much research on the subject?

Bottom line is that I have no kids and plan on living in a house until I die. Your kids can live in "retirement condos" when they move out of your basements. No paranoia here. (i wouldn't have them anyway) It's your kids on the line.

A few years ago it was one of the fastest growing countries in the world in terms of % growth, especially in places like colorodo with the suburban sprawl.

I'd love to see stats showing a lack of birthrates. (I don't buy it) It's true for russia but not the US.

Edit: Checked data.worldbank.org and in 2014 the birthrate was 12.5 per 1000 people while the death rate was only 8 per 1000 people.

ttystikk is there a better solution ? I think germany is one country that has an impressive negative growth rate and was more than happy to allow immigrants in to make up for the lower income workforce.

The real problem is all these systems rely on growth to sustain them selves,we need some new system that doesn't rely on growth. That's why China got rid of it's one child policy,aging population is a drain on the system and they need young tax paying workers. Here wall street will penalize a companies stock value for no growth,unlimited growth is not sustainable.

If you really think that population will shrink, sign on to your brokerage account, sell your longs, and go net short, indefinitely. Even if we have a nuclear war, world population will likely still grow at 1-5% per year. Surely home prices will start dropping and rent will come down!

The problem with not relying on growth is that unless the entire world agrees to limiting growth (assuming it's even possible), one country would likely cheat and eventually become a superpower. That causes a military incentive to not be growing slower than everyone else.

Edit: I also think people are worried about their race/culture becoming a minority, and thus if their culture doesn't have kids fast enough, immigrant cultures/races will become the majority. For example, people might be afraid of hispanics or muslims coming in because then they will have to make more white babies to stay the majority! Or minorities might feel like they need to have more kids to be less of a minority.
