Best Soil for starter

Hello Everyone, new to growing and want to know what is the best and most effective soil I can get for my needs. Something that is easily bought at home depot, gardening centre etc.

they sale that "black gold" brand a lot of places
pro mix is at every farm supply store but its not really soil its more like soiless
id buy fox farm again but not roots, its too much money and tho it may of been from the store all my bags of roots had tons of bugs and seemed hotter than fox farm

I don't see the point on spending tons of $ on soil. Why when you can get 200 gallons worth of manure for $15. But hey....I guess some people have money to burn lol

Home Depot has very limited options for a good soil for growing mj. Many garden centers sell decent organic soil like black gold but you will want to add more N and some extra perlite for good drainage. I suggest adding earthworm castings as well. Composted chicken manure is my nitrogen input of choice these days but there are several other options. Liquid fish fertilizer is good to give sparingly once your plants grow a few sets of nodes, especially if using a weak store bought mix. The best and cheapest way is to build your own soil mix but of course this takes exp & seems daunting for most noobs.
I recommend using fox farm ocean forest or sunshine mix which is well formulated for mj & not found in regular garden stores but any decent garden soil will do if you add some perlite, EWC, and extra N.

What about something like coco coir ?

That's not soil. Coco is a hydroponic medium which is fine if you plan to use nutrients. Just know you'll need to adjust ph each time you give them water or nutes.

While other people don't need 200 gallons of shit and have no place to store it...so they buy bags or ingredients to make their own grow medium.

didn't read the other posts...sorry...I but all my shit form thre depot...I buy composted manure and straight peat moss and perlite from the same place....then I mix it up...gotta wet it first or it wont mix well...then I add the mineals like azomite aand rck phosphate and lime...and Epsom salts...its easy ...just read about photosynthesis and give the plnt what it needs

All I know is when I switch from soil to composted manure my plants are at least 3 X larger then previous yrs by this time. Why hate on it?

I get bags of FFHF for $16.00. I get 2 grows of 2 plants each from a bag. So, I can handle $4 a plant to use the soil I am comfortable with. But hey, shit works to and works well. So I am not talking shit about shit.

So if I do get the COCO I just need to also get perlite and add nutes everytime I water them ?
