Hello all, my first attempt at growing was a failure. So I have a whole new batch of Medusa strain seeds that I just started to germinate. Hopefully in a few days, I will have some tap roots to show. Then the fun begins.

Well, I am like really amazed now. Is it normal for roots to pop out after just 2 days of germinating.

Here are the little ones.

One I am going to plant in my dwc to see how it does, the others I will plant in a soil mixture of 3 parts soil, 1 part perlite. The last attempt I did was in just soil, without perlite. Which is why is suspect it died, because there was not enough air or water getting to the roots because the soil was too compacted, thus causing a nute deficiency.

Soil = Fir bark, redwood bark, sphagnum peat moss, sand, dried poultry waste, feather meal, alfalfa meal, kelp meal
(naturally occuring in previous items) = potassium nitrate, triple superphosphate, calcium nitrate, ureaform, ferrous sulfate

hehe, yeah. I really should have made this in the Soil section.

But any way, how long does it usually take for the seed to break the surface?

The one In my dwc is growing ALOT faster than the one in soil.

However both appear healthy.

Oh yeah, this is my dwc setup in case any one wants to know.

10 gl fish tank. (reservoir)
Black tar paper (block out light)
3 inches Styrofoam (platform for plants)
Air pump
Air Stone
Water pump (inside tank to keep the nutes circulating and to help regulate water temp)
some CFLs and a Grow Florescent light all rated at 6500K

The one plant looks a little trashed cause i just got done harvesting most of the leaves. (it's purple basil)
You can see the seedling in the top row.

I can tell it's having issues with having it's roots submerged in water by the leaves, but I think I have enough O2 pumping into the tank that the roots are not drowning.

What's the temp in the res? If you have your pump constantly running it will heat up the res. temp too high..... especially in a small tank. See if you can find out what the res temp is.
