Thank you for your post. I sent the company a request for more information on what diodes and bins they use and received a sales brochure filled with repeated information from their website. No facts just sales patter. I agree with you the concept has merit but the materials used do not. Shame really.
I can see vertical food production with high efficiency luminaires becoming the norm in the not too distant future. The initial financial outlay for a system as large as they are selling with quality diodes would be what double or triple?

While I have your attention, a question if I may. My experience with mounting LED onto PCBs is nonexistent. My question about that particular form factor was motivated by my interest in upcycling some old chinese PCBs I have laying around with better LEDs. What do you suggest my best course of action to be?
I have a feeling you may suggest that they suitable only for the rubbish bin. Your thoughts would be most appreciated.

One of the things I have noted on this forum is the general poor opinion of the Mars Hydro product. I have helped some customers retrofit these units with COB's, the notable issue with them is they use these leds, possibly Bridgelux or a china equivalent and they seem to have a habit of 'browning' out most likely due to poor thermal design, I assume if you have a good thermal platform you could use them. The other thing I dont care for is they normally have an active slug base. If yours are functioning ok then with good thermal control no reason you cant use them. are they as good as Cree product, no they are not but the cost to convert the board relative to buying new boards would not make any sense

Only DIY. Timber grow lights has simple diy kits. All you gotta do is string them up or frame them. Too easy. For flower I'd add his 660 red kit also. Would be epic.

I will be ignorant, because well in regards to lights, I am, which ones and how many...
