Lets back up a few steps here.

I saw in your previous post that you only do a few plants outdoor and one indoor anually. If this is the case being paired with the fact that youre buying 2$ dollar bags of soil and 3$ dollar bags of compost it seems as if youre trying to save some dough.

Being i know nothing about either of those brands im cautious to advise. If you dont want to make any kind of investment you'll always be buying (in)organic materials from wally world...I dont even go there for my basic living needs..

Its really not that expensive to get a good living soil going to pump out some dank. You just need the know how, time, and patience. I can give you a no till recipe, with this recipe you'll never even have to take the soil out of the pot again. Only top dress with some compost and a couple of meals each year. If you want it let me know. It will save you mad $$$$.

As for AN, dont ever call those hacks again. Do they know what theyre doing? Absolutely Not. Theyre advised to make money and thats it.

Which area of the US do you live in? Im sure as long as youre not in the mountains you have access to a feed store or a nursery. Thats where all the cheap goodies are.

Florida, and could use some help. The only thing I have read is about putting the soil on top of wood and wait 3 years for some organic. But there must be more to it than that. I had a neighbor once back in the 70's, he had a garden with about 1/3 acker of Colombian Bastered Gold, and planted only 18" apart and about 12 rows, and they were the largest leaves and plants I have ever seen. I wish I new how he made his soil, but he is now gone.

Tell me what you think of this IDEA? I was thinking that I could go down to the Lake, and catch me some brim, and mix them up, in with some, of the soil and let sit for 6 months, then put out for an outdoor grow. Do you think this would make an good Organic soil Mix, or am I just Crazy? What about mixing some Gravy Train Dog food with some soil? The meat kind.

Brother you have been told some crazy things lol...I would love to help but can't quite do all the typing at the moment...I'll hop on later and throw down some advice if somebody doesn't beat me to it. In the meantime... Leave the dog food for your pooch.

Flo-rida huh? As long as you dont live in a very remote area try to find a nursery or feed store, This will be your best bet. The next best thing would be a lowes or a home depot and I know one of those are around.

Go to either the nursery or hd, and pick up some black kow, a bale of peat, and some lava rock. Mix these in equal parts and you have a base mix.

Dont go off such wild theory when their is plenty of free research and documention on the internet. Not to mention books, books, and more books. Your friend probably had a good amount of organic matter in his plot.. The more organic matter, the more their is happening, the more happening, more vigor, more vigor, more yield..



Example of Base mix-
1/3 peat
1/3 compost
1/3 aeration (lava rock/perlite)

If you can put this together let me know, if not id just keep doing what youre doing.

Never put dog food in your soil.

Ever...

this is why we have fertilizers.. You'll spend money on dog food to grow your plants but you wont buy fertilizer? Why? ..Dog food would be just as pricey if not more than a good all around blend from down to earth..

I think I can do that, I have been reading how to compost Fish, and it only takes a year, so I think I will give it a try. Gone Fishing lol

Botanicare has some organic teas. I have never used them although I do use their hydroponic nutes the pure blend Pro Series and highly recommend Botanicare all the way around I started with Advanced Nutrients which in my opinion are overpriced garbage once again that's just my opinion but I had lots of problem with Advanced and have had zero problems with Botanicare.

Well I tried to get started on my organic fish making bed, but a lighting storm come up, and had to come back home. spent about an hour and only caught 5 little chuffers. Don't laugh I will put them in the freezer and keep going until I get enough to make at least one bed. haha I think it is going rain this week in, will try next week. lol001.JPG

I found me a feed store, got some Wholly Cow, and some Chicken, can't find this at walmart, lowes, or Home depot. Got a question? How many quarts of Cow, Chicken, and soil do I mix together, for one bed for one plant? I can get lava rocks at walmart, so how many of them in the mix? One more question? How many weeks or months do I put out the bed, before putting out the Plant? Thanks.002.JPG 003.JPG

Is the soil a potting soil or just top soil?

Ok, I see where you already told me to do 1/3 of each. But how many Gallons per hole should I mix per one plot plant? Would it be the same as inside, say 5 gallons or more?

Nahh, the plant is going to want more root room with the big halide in the sky. Id give it atleast 15 gallons.

Make sure you ammend this mix as well. The plant will only go so far with compost and peat. You need some meals in there. Did the feed store have kelp or alfalfa? Any fish meal, or fish bone meal by chance? If not im sure you can sub them out with the usual blood and bonemeals.

That sounds good, one wheel broal full will be about 15 gallon. I found Kelp and Alfalfa in 1 pound powder bags, and Fish in a box, didn't say how much. So next question? How many of each do I mix into the 15 gallon mix?

Great!

The Kelp and Fish will go into your mix. Add them in at a 1/2 Cup per cu ft of base mix.

Youre going to need some calcium as well. The feed store should have oyster shell flour, if not, being in FL you live on a bed of limestone, so just go with that. Add in at a 1/2 cup per cu ft as well. Make sure to get ag lime, not dolomitic, the magnesium is wayyyy too high in dolomitie lime. Knocks the calcium out of whack and tightens your soil making it crusty and uninhabitable.

With the fish meal and kelp meal youre set on your npk's. Next thing you need to worry about is your minerals. The feed store youre going to should have some type of rock dust or azomite. This is imo, the most overlooked part of any soil mix.. Dont skimp on them, your plants will really need them for optimal health, especially the ones outside.
