They already hire the most qualified officers they can find... Where are the more qualified ones going to come from?
Competitive pay could bring in more qualified officers. Just like any other work place. Of course there are limits to that. But starting at 25/28k a year doesn't tend to get the best people.

i took it as.. if the pay was raised, maybe the minimum education and what not would be raised too.. i dont know though. but the only factor with that would be, most people who actually have a brain wont blindly follow dumbass orders our cops are told to followWow, do you ever post anything that is correct? Police get paid quite a bit. At least in big cities, with overtime a close to entry level cop can easily be making 6 figures.
Edit: To me, all this seems to do, is give blue cops more of a reason to shoot first, ask questions later dealing with suspect encounters. With pure execution of police, the public will largely support them also so you will not see much legislative change at all. So this BLM movement just basically makes the current situation stay the same or worse in the future and supports the status quo. That's why BLM movement has always been counterproductive to its stated causes.

I don't think it's still that common for any non brass type to be making that kind of dough. I have seen news stories on the port authority police of ny/nj having some lower level cops making 6 figures because of overtime. But I haven't seen anything suggesting that's the norm. The thing about police pay, they usually start out pretty low right out of the academy. So say about 45-50k, however after about 6 years on the job, it moves up to near 6 figures. Also you start throwing in 1.5x 2x overtime it can be much higher also

They do pay a lot more in the city something like $100k in NYC after 5 years and that was probably 10 years ago I seen that. But that good pay didn't stop them from choking Eric Garner out and watching him die when they could have simply done CPR and the man would be alive today.
