Hey Thanks kmog33 for this grow journal. I have been researching LED's and have narrowed down my search to the Northern Grow Lights Photon 180's or possibly a Black Dog PhytoMax 400w.

I am planning on a 2'x4'x6.5' grow tent set up and would need (2x) Photon 180's. I am also really interested in using only living, organic soil so was awesome to get to see something like what I want to do in this journal, so thanks.

My question to Robincnn is what is the difference between your Photon 180 offerings between a Bridgelux Vero 29, Citizen or Cree CRB3590? Also, which spectrum would you recommend? I was kinda leaning towards the Cree 3500k...

Thanks

I'm not he but I'm running CXB3590 chips, 3500K and I can tell you they're quite simply the finest artificial lighting I've ever grown plants under.

They all put out a tiny by different spectra/light output. I'm using he vero 29s and they work fine.

For 2x4, 2x Photon Vero 29's should be fine. 3000K 3500K, 4000K are all good. If you are looking for some extra power CXB3590 is a great choice as it is more efficient but they are more expensive.
Citizen 1825 is the most efficient and will give you near saturation. Citizen 1818 is a great cheaper alternative to CXB 3590 and is almost equally efficient.
The citizen options come in 90 CRI, which has more deep red.

90 CRI journal just started here

There is a calculator online to estimate the PPFD with photon lamps.

Just got back from Switzerland and finally got to trimming and weighing everything.
so 189 grams is what it's looking like this run. Just over a gpw on my first run with organic living soil not too shabby. Well see how it does with my dwc next run.

I'm running 3000k and 4000k in my other tent, this will be my first time running the 3500s so we'll see how the spectrum compares when flowering with 3500k rather than 3000k or 4000k or mixed 3 and 4. Not going to have much veg this run though as they were grown out under another light and will be flowering under this one.

Thanks for stopping by.
Could you make any finall conclusions on the different K temperatures? Thank you for sharing, great stuff :)! I hope to be able to yield like thsi! :)

3000k=elongated nugs/good frost
3500k=slightly more compact nugs than 3000k/slight increase in density/same frost as 3000k
4000k=densest/most compact nugs/most frost

Best yield:space 3500k

Super helpful post. Running a 4x4 and 3x3 tenr with scrog. Will deff be snagging a few. Currently running 600w hid (would be 1000 but hot by me now) the hid heat and wattage plus needing ac for heat and thag wattage is a mo brainer after spending all day looking and reading of COB's. Just unsure how many to run in 4x4 my heart says 4 but brain says may be overkill (after seeing how bright just one is) thanks for great journal.

4 would be great in a 4x4. That's what I would run. You could probably get away with 3.

I too, am running a Photon 180. Mine is 3000k and mixed in with a bunch of DIY 4000k. It is a terrific light and I will be purchasing another one next week. Kmog33, loved following this thread the last few weeks. And thanks SO much for all of your help!

Definitely. Glad you made it through your first cob run. It's definitely a change. Youre stacking the same spectrum as most of what I'm running so we know it works haha. Will be working with Robin to hey a new thread up soon directly comparing spectrum difference in flowering between these lights.

If anyone has any testing they'd like to see specifically between cob intensity or spectrum, they should either post here or shoot myself or Robin a message regarding what they would like to see. As these test journals are more for you guys than us. :)
