Replacing 2000 watts of HPS with 1000 watts COB LEDs

There have been a few side by sides, Ill be running one myself just to have some more info, Ill be pushing a 100W DE HPS vs 800 W Cree 4000Ks, plus a normal HPS in a 4x4 (there others will be a 5x5 because of the spread.) But as a few people have shown its hard to call yourself good if you arent hitting around a 1.2-1.5 G/W on good quality cobs... It has everything to do with efficiency.
Yes, and light distribution. More light sources evenly spread out across the canopy means better distribution and is one more way COB LED grows more while being easier for the grower to deal with.

I'm getting around 1gpw with hps, I was thinking cobs should be doing over 2gpw. In your side by side your comparing a hps vs a hps + leds?

If you look at my setup at this point, I have the system set up against one wall. The corner and wall have all the nice reflection, but the near side does not. I am wondering if it's worth trying to rig up some reflection for that side. Maybe some rigid reflective pieces that can be removed somehow...

They also sell it in 4 x 50' but I found what looks like Mylar in a huge roll as well that I am actually going to cover the bubble wrap with. I don't find it very reflective but perhaps it's good enough. I actually have the white insides in the veg room which works ok as well. I did my whole shed in the bubble wrap :)

Ok, I get the stuff at HD and I love what it it did on the walls I installed it on. I'm just wondering if it's worth the trouble of making something that would be reflective on the other side and removable so I can tend to the garden.

Couldn't hurt

your story reads a lot like mine, my journey though the HPS to LED's. only when I started changing out lights: w/the UFO and dozens of grow light companies.

it wasn't until I started to mix lights when I got my kind K3's a friend loaned me some CMH lights to help flower, he hated the KIND lights, and I was constantly messing with them: timers light intensity, spectrum changes. anyways it was then yield I saw, I could play in the same school as HPS.

so I dumped the K3's and got some spectrum kings, and along with the CMH's lights was now in the same grade as HPS, just outside1/2 elbow of my old yields.

I have been pretty happy there, as the work load, and ease of running my solution made the loss in weight acceptable, and it was no longer been noted as "different" so it was growing good flowers.

now, I'm playing with some COB's and I'm still mixing my lights, I know I'm just about 6 cobs from 2250/1125(2) HPS yields. with a total of 15 cobs and 2 CMH lights. thats only a savings of about 530 watts, but that included with no more lamps, and hard working A/C's its better.

I'm seeing over the fence in a manner of speaking, I'm guessing about an all cob solution would look like 15 cobs per 1125 if HPS if you do the math, its pretty close to the same pull from the wall. youll save on cooling at least by 30-40%(guesstimation)

far as yields it varies widely 1.5 to 4 per 1000 watts, depends on all other factors. but, can you replace HPS w/COB's....YES, yes you can. everyday there are great grows, that would only a few years ago only be expected from high watt HPS's at a faction of power.

I think you might want to look in to mixing your lights with other low power sources of PAR.

things are moving pretty quick though, keep reading boring stats, and see what the people are doing here on RIU, just saw a thread with a guy running like 140(20-30??)watts on a 3590s with very impressive floor data.

Depends on the screen.

A cheap projector screen with low screen gain will just bounce the light around like a matte white board.

High screen gain and it redirects the light back at the viewer perpendicular to the screen.

If it is do they not absorb light?

So, new clones bursting out of the cloner and ready for a month of vegging:

Vegged plants are now in the flowering room getting acclimated and ready for the RDWC. This allows them to start flowering a little sooner :)

So, it's been 90 plus here for weeks and my room never gets above 84 with the cobs. Would be even cooler if I didn't have that HPS in there. After I get back from my festival, I'll save some cash for another photon :)
