So I made a...drying tube? Lol

So I chopped a big juicy cola off my first plant and I'm quite proud of it being my first grow and for using CFL only. unfortunately for me, the week I'm harvesting it's supposed to storm for 7 days straight essentially. My house humidity is ~60% when it is usually around 40. So I looked through my grow room junk box and found the cardboard tube one of my CFL lights came in and an old computer power supply, gutted it then spliced the fan into a usb cable. I hung some twine across the top of the tube and hung the bud down into the tube. I plugged the fan up and places it on top of the tube blowing very lightly down into the tube. I'll post pics of the bud and my set up. Do you guys think this will help me dry this thing out where my humidity is so high? Or am I wasting my time or even hurting my dry. I know a slower dry and cure is better but this thing is thick as hell and I don't want moldy weed. Thanks for any help in advance!!!image.jpegimage.jpeg image.jpeg

60% is ideal to dry in, the tube with fan is a HUGE mistake
I will take it out then. Thanks for the reply. I've just read that around 50 or a little less is optimal and I will not be smoking hay tasting weed if I can afford it. Trust me when I say that the fan is running VERY SLOWLY tho. You can barely feel the air, but As a noob I know when to listen so I will take your advice sir. Thank you.

Agreed bad idea.. Best thing to do is to cut that cola down to individual buds and place them on a dry rack or other place they will not get dust and whatnot on them.. Nice size cola for cfl first run man. You will not get any mold especially bringing it down to individual nugs that can breathe so long as you don't seal it up in something however drying fast WILL destroy your bud. Let it do its thing and when it's a little crispy on the outside its time to jar it up at least for a few hours. Keep watch on it because soon ad it's moist again on the outside it needs to be dumped out for a while until its crispy and repeat until it feels safe to leave it jarred permanently. Takes some feel

If you have a meter or moisture packs it takes the guess work out though I recommend just getting the feel for it. I'm to the point where I don't need those items and barely have to let em breathe.. Full proper cure in 2-3 weeks depending on a few factors.

Well the only reason the thing is so huge is taking in information from people on here and reading tons from other websites. I know when to shut up take good advice :D I donno if I can bring my self to cut this thing up though man. the only reason I didn't buy a drying rack is cause I heard it leaves flat spots on your buds, which I don't guess is a huge deal as I'm smoking this with myself and A few close friends on occasion. I would however like to avoid flattened buds. What's your experience with them been like?

just hang it and dry it, you can trim buds to jar in a week or so, as soon as stems snap.

Lmao by all means listen to this guy and jar it when it's too late if the stems are snapping

I don't usually give advice anymore because I spend the time and people don't listen anyway and others give misinformation then they learn the hard way, plus this may be my career one day and I don't really need to teach possible competition not to mention I've probably typed this information out for people to find already five times but I digress...
That ^ is all FACT the following is factual opinion lol, yes it can leave a slight flat side at the beginning but when the buds go into the jar they will compress down a bit anyway. That's part of the key to nice tight buds having a tight full jar in cure and you don't really see much in the way of flat spots on the final product for these reasons. Not to mention I'm not talking about using a piece of plastic or anything they make light, soft material racks with holes in each level to minimize surface contact which in turn causes very little pressing. I've never been a fan of hang drying or drying before trimming and I have tried both. the biggest reason for this is when you're trying to uniformly dry a mass of, anything really, you're going to have damp spots or spots on your cola that will take more time than others to dry. Of course this principle gets worse the larger your colas get. When you're drying uniformly sized buds that get even air contact on the entire surface (what would normally be hidden inside the cola) you get a more even dry. You also get a faster dry time due to the fact that the huge stalk inside, which holds moisture the longest, is no longer leeching that moisture into your bud. By removing the main stalk and all material you don't care about before the dry, you're removing moisture from the area plus more surface area speeds the drying in itself. You're also discarding parts of the plant that can contribute to an unpleasant smell which may linger for some time after if not discarded before drying. I am THAT GUY to all my friends, the connoisseur, the one that would worry about flat buds or the possibility of losing trichs on a dry rack etc. And after a good level of experience (see avatar) I can say confidently that trimming before drying and disassembling the plant down to buds immediately then using a dry rack is the way that has served me best in ALL aspects.

Here are my previously posted credentials lol :D .. In that tent on the second post I have idk about nine strains running only do reports on strains I run a whole pack of though so most are unmentioned. The final picture on that second link you can see there's no flattening, nice shaped buds that came off a rack, although that particular picture is crap for focus and clarity so it doesn't do the final product any justice but I think you can see the quality in some of the others :) best of luck

Looks awesome man. I took your advice and cut her up. Stuck it on my folding clothes hamper which is basically the same material as the hanging dryers. I had to after that novel you wrote me. <3 well that and I wanna get high sooner. :P

Lol.. Ya I think that is the exact same material actually! Should be crisping up within the first few days of drying. Once they are nice and crispy outside but still have a nice squish to them, in the jar they go, smallest jar you can find that it all fits in. Good luck on feeling out the curing process. ask any questions you might have I'll keep an eye and there's lots of other guys here that know what they are doing as well, let us know how it turns out!!
