Wet trim vs dry trim?

Fresh frozen all day this isn't even an argument live resin, live rosin and full melt bubble shit on all other hashes no issues at all. Idk how this is even a debate by any means it's proven fact you lose different terps thru the drying process. I can guarantee if I put my live resin or full melt bubble in front of you you'd know what I mean. But its not just me tons of people throw down stupid fire with fresh frozen

Can you explain why you think wet trimmed buds have to be laid on screens so they have a flat side? And dry hung? Seems like you could do either regardless of whether you wet or dry trim.
when I wet trim the buds are bag ready and the only way to dry them is to lay them on screens.

Not talking about the boiling water thing ODG! I'm relating to what ODIN points to. This is something found on many grow sites!
The whole terps leave the plant through "wounds" thing!

I understand your points!

I didn't say that terp's escape through "wounds", nor do I believe that they do.

Based on the observation I made regarding those final 8 plants, I am positive that hacking the plant to pieces while it is alive has a detrimental effect on the final (flower) product. This does not apply to @Afgan King as he's freezing right away/extracting the good stuff before the living tissues have time to "take action". I'm not going to try to explain my thoughts and theories on what is going on within the plant after "live hack" that would cause this, but trust me...

I've done the dry trim, wet trim, frozen then dried, screen dried, hung to dry, root boil, done it all and honestly it doesn't make a whole lot of difference in my experience. Perhaps there are subtle differences but not any one that would stand out. Wet trimming is far easier and if doing weight then it's the only way i would to it for the time savings. Also my trim pro only works on wet material :). Pretty sure the drying and curing are the key to a good product, not how you cut the leaves off.

Does that not knock a lot of tricomes off when tumbling dry? It looks like hash machine lol.
Yeah! I agree.....tric loss looks to be a factor.....It could fool us a bit though.

ONE of the reasons I like to wet trim too! Handling dry buds makes for tric loss.....Of course that could be measured real easy like. Use a screen to collect what gets knocked off....Might have to try that when I try the dry method again....been a while.

i've wet trimmed my whole growing career, and had trouble getting rid of the "brown" smell that comes from it. i have a lemon kush hanging right now, 3rd day in. i cut the sun leaves off it and left all the sugar leaves. it smells amazing, not one hint of that fucking brown smell. i agree that peeling dry sugar leaves off is a pain in the ass, but if it makes this much of a difference, i'll deal with it

@Dr. Who @CannaBruh It is the processes that occur in the still living plant after "chop" that generate a difference between wet and dry trim. Started out dry trimming, years of altering methods in an effort to hasten trim sessions led away from dry to wet trim. I was down to my last 8 plants, last members of the crew had left, it was 3am, so I just hacked them down (to dry trim later). Those final 8 (representing two separate strains) were visibly superior to the members of that particular strain who were wet trimmed. The difference was so pronounce that I bagged them separately. True story.

Edit: Dry trimming religiously ever since.

Exactly the point I was coming to ponder, in the post directly above yours ODIN!
Yet this action does continue in wet trimmed too. Easy to conclud that it may in last longer in the dry trimmed....

We spoke on the issue pvtly and while it's rather hard for me space wise in one sense. The ability to at another location is open. I plan on trying this for myself as I have that "Inquiring minds" thing going on in my head.

Like I said earlier. This is one of those personal opinion topics with little to no "actual" recorded "science" on it!
I'll take ODIN's findings and run with it to try myself! There IS "gray" area of knowledge all over this!

This IS a good topic to try for yourself and "see"!

I always wet trimmed for the ease and the time factor involved. This thread peaked the "Spock" in me, when @CannaBruh asked about the "dead" thing and I tossed the possibilities of how that factor relates to this, around in my head!

I feel this topic is way open for investigation - I'm going to!

Thanks CannaBruh and ODIN! Third thing on my list to do this next run.

Never got any lingering "brown" smell after proper curing....

I have never really understood the idea of having to trim the lovely tric encrusted "sugar" leaves anyway!
What the fuck for?
Shit, back in the day. You got the whole damn thing anyway! I can remember very clearly some Panama, Mexican, and Columbo's that it never mattered at all! Shit was still better then way more then half the fucking strains available from the TUDE today!

That "California" state of mind on close trimming is rather funny in my book! I have strains that I might simply clip some tips (after stem and sun leaf removal) and hang'em. Always had folks say that it's nice to see all that "snowy goodness" still on the bud!

What? Now your going to say, "make concentrates from it!"......REAL quality concentrates are made by dedicating particular plants to be used, just for making the concentrates!

Maybe we need to look at how and what we trim......just thinking out loud....

even sugar leaves have a lot of cellulose in them, and i try to ingest as little cellulose as possible. and i do enjoy a little dry sift hash after i harvest a plant, kind of a treat for doing all the boring trimming

Sounds like u have a problem growing or drying if your getting a "brown" smell. Colorado medical cannabis is almost always wet trim period and a shot ton of their hash and do on is trim run. I've been wet trimming and done dry wet I get better looking buds and less trich loss and just a better overall product

the plants grow fine, and the finished product has been great, as far as taste and potency goes, they're even pretty. theres just been this "paper bag" smell that takes a long time to fade. i will admit that i'm impatient and i have to force myself not to do things too early, which may be part of my problem. but..i hung this plant with all the sun leaves on it and not one hint of that smell...i have to think theres some kind of connection there.

the only other thing i'm doing different is running a lot less air through the box this time, the first few times i used it i had the fan on 24 hours a day, and it dried too quick, so i cut it back to a 15 minutes on/off cycle, still too fast. this time i'm only running the fan 15 minutes every two hours, maybe thats the difference, not leaving the sugar leaves on?

we use to wet trim, but dry trimmed buds look & smell better.......= better price. dry trimming is more hassle but worth it....and yes we are dedicating entire plants to rosin making, I have about 35 smallish (1lb) clone plants of assorted flavors that will all be squished fresh frozen into rosin....

The "Cali Trim" originated with the new generation of inexperienced growers. They had to trim out the PM and signs of spider mite damage (the spots are less than appealing). That, and the overly dry buds getting "abused" in the bag for a prolonged period of time (tons of bag shake). Of late, I've noticed a resurgence in proper trim methods, at least at shops carrying "connoisseur grade" herb.

I couldn't imagine doing that to my ladies. Spend all that time making them look beautiful, only to butcher your flowers at finish.

i've been smoking weed for 38 years, and i can't recall a time when it was the norm to get buds full of untrimmed sugar leaves. the only times i've ever gotten bud that had a lot of trim still left on it was when i got it from friends that grew it themselves and they were too lazy to trim it.
if i went to the man and he had bags with a load of leaves in it, we're negotiating a new price, i aint payin bud prices for leaves, even sugar leaves

What bull shit! Same for the rather stupid "cellulose" comment !
What gives you the idea that buds have any less "cellulose" then sugar leaves?
If you've really been smoking for "38" years. You saw plenty of untrimmed bud! If you deny that, your full of it!
Even the simple idea of 38 years of "perfect" trimmed, (and let me guess, sinsi only) and nothing else is preposterous!
