Yeah, it's designed for storing stuff under a bed. The pad is 18". I meant 3' at the top, it gets a little less on the bottom. Let's just say it's a long container. I just happened to already have it. I would use one less long if I was buying one for the purpose. This has more length than actually needed.

there would be no point in burping it then. it would be well outside the useful range for burping

Well it's still not even dry at the point shown. It's totally soft and squishable.
