thought a couple quick vids would help. I literally talk to experienced and beginner gardeners all day every day. Like I said I manage a hydro store and I study lighting like its my job.... because it is. I was going to post links to some studies but who wants to read pages of text. these vids are quick and entertaining.

Why COBs? Efficiency. For every 100watts of energy used your plants see what ever Percentage of efficiency they are: KIND epistsr LEDs 22.5% Plants see 22.5 Watts, HPS 30%... Switch to cobs and your plants see upwards of 60%. ;) More light = More good.

btw cobs are fantastic but very expensive unless you have the knowledge to diy. Cmh is a less expensive option and is getting cheaper all the time. If you have the cheddar go lep or cob.

I run a Hydro store in well a state lol. I first read abought the Growers Choice 630 de cmh 3 months ago in Maximum Yield magazine. It came just in time to start flowering. I'm 3 weeks out and couldn't be happier. running on a galaxy optimized de ballast. didn't know abought the short wave ballast thing until today a Nanolux rep was in the store and I asked him when they were gona produce one. he confirmed the bulb will have a short life but honestly I think its worth it. I will be investing in a square wave soon it looks like. FYI Nanolux tells me its de cmh will be out early 2017
Hey thanks for the reply. great to hear from someone with first hand experience with them. I decided to go 315w se cmh because of my 8 ft ceilings I fear i won't have enough room between the light and canopy.

You have no idea how hard I have looked lol. The link to the bulbs pro website lists that bulb as a t9 but shows a picture of a t12 so I'm not sure which it is but I would need a t12 and either way it is out of stock and discontinued according to that website:(

Edit:
At closer inspection on the same page you linked it states they are t9 bulbs at least twice but says it's a t12 once and shows a pic of a t12 so I'm not sure what's going on but I would be scared to order one even if they did have stock.

As for the Solistek bulb, for right now I want to stick with philips for sure. There are a lot of cheap alternatives out there.

Here is a vid comparing 10 different cmh bulbs

And finally the growlights.ca ballast/reflector does not come with any warranty if you look closely. And I'm kind of scared of using a cheap Chinese knock off as I don't want to start fires lol or lose my light In the middle of a grow. If i could find someone who has tried them and likes them I may be willing to try, but it's $300 for that reflector and ballast and another $150 for the bulb. Thats $450 already for no name chinese brand with no warranty. I may look into the Phantom 315w kit from my local hydro store on sale right now for $550 cdn.(well $600 cdn but he will do 3 for $550 each)

Also that ballast/reflector is also available at progressive-growth.com for the same price, but if I remember right you need $1000 for free shipping lol.

Hey, I had a thought.... What do they use to power the 630W fixtures with the two bulb setup? Are those two separate ballasts, or is it actually a 630W LfSq?

I would call bulbspro if I were you and looking for that bulb (they are great to deal with). I've found conflicting info a couple of times when ordering from them, they took my number and called me back within a few minutes.

Also keep in mind that the only way to actually not use a chinese knock-off ballast is to buy the phillips electronic ballast and a reflector and diy a setup yourself. ALL the 315 systems (that I've looked at) use chinese ballasts (a lot use the Wellthink ballasts you can get on alibaba).

I would call but that bulb is out of stock and discontinued it says

I'm aware that all the ballast are manufactured in China the difference is a reputable brand name and a warranty. I believe the philips as well is Chinese manufactured. All the sun system all in one lec units come with a Philips ballast built in.

Yeah 140 u.s. which is about 185 canadian but up here it will cost me $ 145.00 ( on sale! reg 195.00) for a Phillips 315w bulb (best price I could find)
It would also cost me about $750 on sale (regular $950) for a sun system 315 or $1450 (reg $1950) for the sun system 630 (dual 315's) so if this bulb is a performer it would make way more sense for me to use my own ballast and ac/de hood and this bulb. Still Anson much cheaper then the $1450 for the sun system 630 which is just dual bulbs.

All prices quoted from bustan.ca. the best prices I could find because of their current sales.
Watch out for growers house in Canada.
I got hit with $600 in customs and duties a while ago when buying a few k worth.
its worth it to pay more in Canada without duty and tax.
I avoid usa shipping like the plague if I can.

I know right! if i were to buy from the usa I would arrange a weekend trip for my $800 worth of duty free purchases.
