VIPAR LED Review (6 months later..)

Heres my prev grow which is now flowering outdoor as the seed was unknown. The bottom pic is my Auto Anesthesia in Veg under the light in my larger tent and its working awesome. I'v only heard good things about these 450w lights so far, I don't think I can go wrong with a 3 year warranty on the bastard.

One criticism I have of the blue/red lights from China is that, with that kind of spectrum, I can't see what's going on with the plants as well. With a full spectrum Cree fixture, I can easily see any bugs or deficiencies at a glance. I don't think that the purple spectrum is enough of a benefit to the plant growth to make me want to endure working in that kind of light. I think that my eyesight of what's going on in the grow space is a bigger benefit to the plants. But I'm not criticizing anyone's choices. People have grown good cannabis with almost any light you can imagine! Good luck and good growing!

What Amazon and eBay due to pump this Chinese shit is sickening. They are just as bad pushing this crap especially Amazon.

I have Mars Hydro and was suckered. They are okay in veg but pretty useless in flower. They may be okay for some people but T8 or T5s are probably better even in flower. .

What about this one? VIPARSPECTRA PAR 600, 285 true watts, 12-band, 3 year warranty, and 5w Bridgelux and epistar diodes. Is this junk too?

I paid $100 for a chinese 200x3w panel a year ago from eBay and the few diodes that went bad I got for free from the seller (since it was under warranty) and replaced them my self. Learn to use a soldering iron and you can avoid overpriced rebranded stuff like mars viparspectra etc.

I know how to solder, thanks for the tip. These are 260$. I was just thinking these might actually be good the other Vipars have epiled diodes I think they are lower quality than epistar which is what these have in it.

The one i got supposedly had epistar diodes too. I made sure the listing mentioned epistar and not epiled. However I really can't find any markings to indicate epistar/epiled on the desoldered chip itself....

p.s.
for anyone wanting to repair these, each led is coupled with a zener diode, if either one dies there's no problem, but if both die the whole row of leds turns off since they are wired in series. Replacing the zener or the led will fix it.

I would rather attempt to make my own kit instead of paying those prices. Thanks for the input though.

Do you by chance remember the model it was because I think this company is starting to mature some, if these new models turn out to be good anyways.

You'd have to look through their chips to see which model it is. Main thing is if the company building it ain't bragging about the led model and bin then there's a reason not to brag.

I wouldn't buy it. For true coverage plan on 50 and up watts per sqft. It's only 285 watts so there's no way I'd buy it. The California light works is about $550 for their 400w solar system 550 and I'm 1000% certain that's a better light because it has osram chips and they brag about it and the bin.

But still.....cobs are even better

It is 410$ for California light works 220w model and the Vipar is 285w at 260$. Yes I know the efficiency goes to California light works osram chips compared to epistar but I am almost sure that these 2 light are close to performance, now for reliability idk not enough people have messed with those new model vipars to know yet.

Most of the generic panels test in at .9-1.1 umol/j. Pretty sure California Light Works newer models are 1.6+. So don't always compare straight wattage. I'd easily pay the extra 150 for more light at less wattage. That and the warranty. $150 seems like a lot but damn if it breaks that sucks. Would you buy a no name Chinese car that gets terrible gas milage to save a few bucks? I sure as hell wouldn't.

That is a spot measurement under the light. What you really need to know is total light coming out of a fixture. That chart is very deceptive as you really don't know the overall spread. Center measurements aren't the best indicator of light performance or even good for that matter. I met an led company at Cannagrow that had a 150 watt red/blue led that was 3000 at 12" it had a footprint of about 1 sq ft though. I hope you understand. Do some research and come back. For a few more dollars you could buy a 2 cob light from @Rahz from Tasty led and it would hand that light it's ass. Note I'm not affiliated with Tasty at all but will rep a good company when I see one.

Nice I like the clean look of it. It puts out little bit above a 250 hps lumen avg. Thanks for the help.

Yeah i didn't know the price of the rebranded Chinese led viper is selling. For that price then go with Stephen recommended or the like....
