What do you use for soil?

I know you deleted my post but I wasn't trying to start anything. I say r.i. kidd was being a jerk to the OP for no reason and if you saw what I posted you wouldn't have deleted it. I gave the Op some good options. I'm not here to fight I have moved on from 4 years ago. I can't help how I come off. you don't know the real me. Sorry if it came off wrong but I did nothing wrong.
It's not what your write sometimes it's what you quote

There are towns with new cob streetlights that are petitioning to get their nice mellow HPS lamps back. The bright white light is stressing whole towns out. :cuss:
I heard about that. but I was just being sarcastic. a similar thing happened back in the 70's when cities tried LPS lamps. too uellow for most people.HPS street lights give a softer light over a larger area.I am not a big fan of LED parking lot lights. to harse and not as good of coverage

Well I make 12 cob that is better than a 600w HPS 24 cob that will outperform Gavita
I knew that was coming. :-)

I have chosen to add a cmh to my 2 600w super HPS garden. Not enough money to be saved going that route for me. I heat my cold house with my exhaust to supplement the propane tank out here.

But I do believe all our tools have a place.

I can't get my hands on foxfarm soil. So I'm going to have to go with something else. I heard roots organics from someone. What's your suggestions?
I mix 1:1:1:1 ratio by volume (5 gal pail is a good measuring tool and assume 20 gal total soil for ammendment qty) of the following; vermicastings, native sandy loam, peat/coco/or biochar, aerated compost. dress with 1-2T Lime per gallon of soil, also bone meal same amount, 1/2-2 gallon of bokashi per 20 gal soil, small handful of epsom salt. mix completely three times over with a shovel on pavement or bare soil.

that's a base soil if i ever saw one and accompanied by aerated teas it is pretty fly performance. Organics becomes insanely efficient if you practice sustainability techniques that all revolve around microorganism use and vermicomposting (livestock integration). Good fast research. I'm sure the k was too high on the ones that were complained about this summer.

But aren't they all bright white so to speak?
I have a 600 watt unit using 12x 50 watt cobs and it's the 3000k spectrum. It does have a nice slightly yellow color to it, but much more white than hps. The problem is that the higher kelvin temps have much more blue which has a short wavelength, and it strains the eyes.
pfft...then I know a lot of head lights they need to change out first..because I know they are way too bright.
Driving around most big cities in the US you could have your headlights off and not know it for awhile, it's way too bright we need to see the stars, maaaaan.

NPR did a thing about led street lights. They were saying the cheap ones put off to much blue and can fuck with your sleep. Just an fyi.

I thought this was about soils?
Now it's crappy blurple LED's and the peanut gallery pointing fingers at each other to Sunni?

Lets go back to "soil". Which Pro mix, BioBizz and anything that does not contain actual real "plant nutrition" is NOT!
It's an inert media....

Let the crying begin!

^^^^ Yes indeed.

My preferred soil-less medium is ProMix BX amended with vermiculite, perlite and dolomite lime.
I like to mix it to be nice and fluffy.

^^^ And then you have the folks who know what it is, and grow well in it!

One of my bud's, takes a great organic base soil. Puts in a bit of Dolo, and runs the plants for 32 days. He then begins his nutrient regimen, using Botanicare KIND, Pro tekt and my sweet Raw formula (used to run Hesi or a variation of Ionic and Hesi)......I gotta say that his results are so impressive. I don't even complain about him "wasting" such nice base soil.....(He gives the used to my wife for her flower beds and area's for sandy soil that she's building up slowly with it.)

He just went to that from an inert media method he did for years and years.....he likes the way the seedlings do with the organic base....Not to mention he saw what I spend on making 4 cu ft of 30 day base! He pinch's penny's so hard that he gets called Mr. Crabs at the co-op meetings!

I started growing with the Kellogg's potting soil amended with 1/3 perlite it worked and I grew very healthy plants. When I got more experience I switched to more expensive soils like fox farm, one coco called big city mix, and a few other organic soils they all out performed Kellogg's quality and yield. Actually I have a pic frm a couple years ago I'll show, both were amended with worm castings given same nutes (gh 3 part) and a healthy dose of bennies. I finally made a believer outta my my ex gf dad that year who's been using miracle grow soil to grow commercially for years. Granted I put a tiny bit more love into mine the results speak for them selfs happy growing

I have never used soil in any of my container plants (indoors and out). My only experience with soil is with my in ground plants.

Soil-less blends are much lighter (wet or dry)...and as I am constantly moving my containers, much easier on my back.

I agree I'm currently using coco with great results indoor. My point was there's a lot of better stuff than miracle grow but it will work if ur in a tite spot.
