How's the smell when you roast?
Starts kind of steamy grass smelling, then around 250 - 300 degrees it starts to burn / smoke a little. Smells somewhat like popcorn.

The natural washed Brazilian smelled like chocolate and raisins while roasting.

The Columbian like popcorn mostly. Still getting a feel for the varieties. Just saving the more delicate stuff for later.

Have an Ethiopian guji, and a nice bangalore peaberry waiting their turns.

I used to do the canna butter blended in, but Im not a fan of cannabis edible taste, the bacon syrup masked it a little. So I just chase a canna cap with a cup of guatemalan antigua coffee now.

Is your hottop the new USB ? Get your beans from Sweet Maria's?
The new USB the one that runs about 1600? This is like 1 step down.

The beans I have now came from roastmasters with the unit. Some decent stock though.

I like bodhi leaf coffee trader. They have a connect to twenty plus Estates. Some amazing beans and micro lots for cheap.

I'll have to check out Sweet Maria thanks @Rrog

I was that way once. Then I realized / began to taste the differences in the way freshly ground coffee tastes. Before I knew it I started geek in out on coffee like I do on weed.

Different single origin varietals dried and processed differently. Whole different world for me.

I like good coffee like I like good weed. All the fucking time.
I live in Seattle, so yeah, all of us are required by law to have a coffee IV drip at all times. I agree with you, when I tasted fresh ground coffee from the roster brewed correctly I turned coffee geek too. My preferred method to date is pour over: 12:1 ratio. Getting the grind just right was the challenge for me. But yes, all things coffee for me.

I also prefer the pour over.

16:1 typically. Why do you prefer 12:1?

Ever heard of the Phoenix 70?

I have seen it, but not tried. have you? I use the hario type of cup for pour over. Didn't like chemex. 12:1 is a matter of taste for me. I usually buy all sorts of beans from local roasters round the PNW. Mostly I like the mellower brews. I can see a 16:1 if you're using a more robust bean. When I was first learning pour over technique, the actual rule of thumb was 10:1. Too strong for me. But it was the first time I tried black coffee and it wasn't sour or bitter. I was hooked man! Now it's all I drink. Believe me, I've got more coffee gadgets, grinders, scales, vessels, etc. I worked on pulling shots for a while, then hand grinding, now I got a conical burr grinder for Christmas I'm playing around with. LOL I'm an addict.
