I know lots of people in Germany that get out of serving in the military there because of higher education. Viet nam was a different time and no one wants to do something their forced to do. I'm sure 99% of the people on this forum would come up with something to get out of war if there was a draft. It's much better wanting to go to war than being forced. You can see that in today's vets compared to Nams vets.

I don't see it. Dudes I know are happy obama is gone and hope the handcuffs are taken off so we can make shit happen in Afghanistan and Iraq. Also the average SF dude pulls 8.6k a month pay so it's a good life and getting your degree is free.

Well put. Sadly, more fucked over and damaged, as well. Too many sad stories, man.....the VA hospital and the Hope Center are fucking train wrecks in many ways....funding issues, sanitation, people having to beg for their benefits/livelihood, etc.

It's all sad but began when I was working on TV's in the late 60's. I was young and watched the electronics industry move as did many others. But it seems nobody noticed. What the future holds is sad for less educated. Manufacturing has made a big comeback in the last 5 years or so. But automation allows for very few workers. Driverless semi trucks, taxis and as people accept waiting on themselves shopping. Self checkout hell we might as well stock the shelves.

I don't think the American public knows (cares?) about the high concentration of junkies/drunks among these guys. It's all about dumbass blowhards riling up rednecks with pseudo-patriotic rhetoric but doing JACK SHIT at the end of the day. I'm talking about young guys, friggin kids. I'm not talking about the 'sleep aides', painkillers, and anti-psychotics that a lot of 'em pop all day and night, I'm talking about 26-year-olds that go through dozens of pills in a day, up the nose, while guzzling liters of liquor. The truly unfortunate part is that certain local places (no names mentioned) seem to encourage this lifestyle, while operating under the guise of 'hospitals' and 'rehab centers'.
I do the small bit that I do (hire guys, bring meals/cigs/weed, help out), but it's not even a drop in the fuckin bucket, man....
