rockwool/drip system question

ive heard so many different things so i was just
wondering, if your on a drip system should you
let it drip all day? even if you have hydro pebbles?

No you only want to drip for a few minutes 1 or 2 times per day, if you have hydroton pebbles only then you can drip up to 5 times a day.

well i have my clones in an organic plug
and in those big cube rockwools with hydroton pebbles
covering all the rockwool,
so should i just drip them once a day or more??

I will reiterate that for you. Drip 1 or 2 times a day for 5-10 minutes each time. You still have rockwool and rockwool should never be wet.

RW is highly absorbent, pellets hold almost no water. The main reason for using pellets is that very low absorbency. They can be watered very frequently without risk of overwatering problems.

If you have RW in the pots, you can indeed only water 1x and perhaps 2x/day for very vigorous plants.

The media type determines how often you can water, not the watering method.

Drip rings are a good thing for pots of pellets in which you've put a clone in a RW cube because it will wet all the pellets and none of the RW cube.

Yes, but keep in mind that if using a flood system with pots of pellets, the cubes must be 1/2" above the flood level. If drip feeding cubes in pellets, use a drip ring.

Here's a drip ring. Buy or DIY, just a tee fitting and some flexible tube with a bunch of 1mm holes.

Yes, I've heard of the Waterfarm system. It's flood system. Wondering why you are running a drip with it.

Ah, OK, my error, this looks like a bucket based flood system based around identical components.

The one I was thinking of employs a separate res, 'control bucket' with pump & float valve along with fill/drain plumbing to each bucket.

No, the trays & stands came from my local hydro shop, but are very cheap, $53 per tray, $30 per stand. Water pumps are $11, air pump $8, Dollar shop 125L storage tubs for res tanks, $20.

You could make a flood system exclusively with hdwe store items, but the vacuum moulded trays from the hydro shop work best.
