We're breeding out the ambering of trich's in many new strains ?

My next experiment is to amend pro mix with an organic pellet slow release nute and water only other than topping up like @chemphlegm

I am a bit shy to lose control though. I like feeding exactly what they need every time but it is really time consuming with all the plants at different stages.
Interesting. I mixed seabat with FFOF with great results and plan to try it again.

I'm also tempted to try some of my wifes osmocote on one of my outdoor plants...

I was gifted the Roots Organic Uprising trio. (dry nutes)
I still haven't used them up bc I build my soil but I did try them out for a couple grows.
They're a great way to get your feet wet with "water only" without needing to build up a ROLS first.

The only additions I added to the trio were some mycos, bennies (I like Real Growers Recharge) and some Roots Organics Elemental. The Elemental is a decent additions of Calcitic Lime, Dolomitic Lime, Gypsum and Fish Protein Hydrolysate. Its really fine, like Oyster shell flour.

IME, these are really a great way to enter the fundamental world of water only organics....especially if you grow perpetual.
I know there are cheaper products available and I probably wouldn't have purchased these but having tried them, I would rec them because they do work well and the results were consistent.

I believe the Aurora Innovations/Roots Organics still have the free sample form on their site. I "think" you can choose up to 3 products and you pay 7-8 bucks shipping.

Just some food for thought....

Thank you. I will definitely look into the uprising. That's the sort of fertilizer I was thinking.

Not really a "false dream". AFAIK @RM3 has been working on his project to preserve the "amber trich" characteristics/traits for quite some time. Its intriguing stuff for sure. Hopefully one day I'll be able to acquire some of his work.
And I'm totally on board with Dr Whos theory because I too have plants that never go amber and I don't have a "feed" schedule. Water only.
There's definitely more to this subject than just bro science. Kinda makes me want to order a new macro lens so I can doc my own findings. ;)
And with every new and new uber potent strain I get from So Cal, OR, CO (Not Riddles CFT). I get more strains that simply do not amber. A cpl are slower then hell but, the result is huge cola's, dense as all hell and mind numbing......but, no amber...

See the mind numbing comment is the thing I have been noticing too. The "clone only" strains I have tried here and the s-1's I am growing of most all of the newer favorites are really potent. Fast hitting. Medium yield of good bag appeal frosty nugs and short lived and mind numbing.

And not even the OG's show any colored trichomes. Just clear to cloudy to degraded.

I find it weird that the OG's have not had them. Even the Sativa leaning and seriously potent Deadhead OG I have curing.

I like big full expansive highs. I guess that involves more flowering time and more variety of canabanoids. And a bit less thc and more other stuff in the mix.

The smells and flavors of some newer strains are amazing however.

Started up a cpl of old "dog shit skunk" plants.......I'm almost wondering if it's not a very close pheno to Roadkill.....They sure have that same ability to make you go EEEWWWW!...

It is so funny that you just brought up dog shit phenos. All the sudden I have my whole house still smelling of a diesel heavy BLT we just harvested.

I was thinking rotten fruit but Mrs MMG is right. Our house smells like dog shit! Lol.

And I was just burping a G-13/ Skunk hybrid with Mr. Nice genetics and it too smelled pretty much like dog shit. Until it breathed a while and settled into a mellowed Skunk as usual. With the g-13 it has that flooring your ass quality and with the BLT it's feminized with it has that floaty thing going to off set the steamroller.

Man my house smells like shit Doc. :-)

I had some girl scout cookies recently that I thought smelled delicious. My wife said it smelled like dog shit.:eyesmoke:

The dog shittiest plant I had was a Herijuana jack hybrid. She smelled like cat piss growing. And I mean offensively.

Then cut and in the jars pure poop.

But 3 weeks later after regular burping the weed was golden brown almost and smelled and tasted like dark chocolate.

Smooth too. What a transformation.

advances in lighting. perhaps these newer strains are being bred under LED, LEC with a fuller spectrum compared to old school strains being bred under HPS/MH which causes the non ambering effect? maybe.
I've been switching from HPS to MH for the last week or so of flower my last couple grows and I've noticed my trichs go amber within a couple days of switching the bulb then a new flush of trichs come in nice and clear. These don't amber up until the plant finishes. So I can see lighting effecting the process. I'd like to understand the mechanics behind it a little better.

and the most important question....which nutes have you ended with @ Chunky Stool
That's a great question!
* drum roll *
And the answer is...
I use them all. Yeah, sounds like a copout but it's the truth. Right now I need to water six plants in half gallon pots and they are all showing mag deficiency and could use a nitrogen boost. Because of this, Jacks citrus is my best option. I really like DG foliage pro but Jacks has twice as much mag and more N so it's a no-brainer.
I also mix nutes to get the right NPK for the situation.
Oh and don't forget organic! I loves me some nute tea. Can't beat guano for making plants pop. I'll probably mix 5 gallons of peruvian seabird guano today.

Another observation on (possible) nutrient effect. I mistakenly switched up my timing on 2 plants, a 9 week strain( green crack) and a 10 week strain(blue dream) . I was running the 9wk on a 10 wks schedule and the 10wk on a 9wk schedule. :wall:

I was running full nutes on the green crack, 1.3EC right up to day 61, thinking it had another 10 days to go. The pistils receded, calyx swelled, but it just kept piling on clear trichs. Once I put it on a more reasonable EC, it started to milk up within a day.

The blue dream I had on reduced nutes thinking it was done, even thought it had a couple weeks to go, amber'd up at week 7, but never really swelled and no receding pistils. Once I corrected the nutes, it started bulking up considerably, but only getting milky the trichs.

Was it the nutes, stress, genetics, coincidental timing.... I

I've also seen damage to the plant cause a section of cola to amber. I'm guessing it was oxidation of the ruptured heads? I think this is where many of the "is this ready" threads come from. People seeing amber after moving/lst'ing/pruning their plans from the associated damage.

i think the only way to test this out is for @Dr. Who to send us all some cuts of strains that don't amber and let everybody try them in completely different enviros and see what happens!

This might be something to having flowers too close to lights. We find some completely bleached flower tops with lots of stalked amber globes.

I have seen all of the things you wrote here happen.

I think available nitrogen helps the plant flower longer if the environment is right.

Bloom boosters and ratios like PK 13 are designed to expediate flowering in annuals.

I have 2 clones both taken from the lowest branch of the mother.

The underfed one has lost leaves and was ready at 10 weeks. The second one I have fed to keep nice and green. She has bigger buds and a week to go yet.

Everything else the same.

Flowered a Bodhi Thunder Wookie that smelled like shit, real shit for weeks up to chop. Now it is curing to a spicy Skunk ass.

I grew some Oaxacan Zipolite and one was all foxtail from the start. Some low latitude sativas are like that. And they hermie for the hell of it at times.
