Small ACMPR Kush Berry Grow

Welcome to my grow journal.

I haven't grown in many years. I used to always have a grow but when my wife and I started having kids the grow was phased out. But now that I am an ACMPR patient and my kids are not kids anymore, I am going to start growing again all be it on a much smaller scale than I used to grow.

This grow will follow all ACMPR regulations as far as plants in production numbers (i'm allowed 15 plants in production) and quantities of dry material on hand. The one exception is starting materials, I'll be damned if i'm going to buy outrageously priced clones from the two or three LP's that offer them.

My grow will be in my detached garage in a 4x4x6.5 Fusion Hut combo package. I upgraded the light to a 1000w switchable/dimable digital ballast and also upgraded the filter & fan to 6" set up. I will be using the Remo Nutrients supercharged pack which pretty much includes their entire line up of Grow, Bloom, Micro, MagNifiCal, Natures Candy, Astro Flower and Velo Kelp.

My strain for this grow will be Peak Seeds BC "Kush Berry", I also have "Sweet Skunk x C99" from them but I will grow this after the kush berry is done or maybe I'll get another tent combo to start them.....we'll just have to wait and see what happens with that later.

I plan on growing in 3 gallon hempy buckets in a 70/30 coco/perlite grow medium.

View attachment 396211 View attachment 3962113 I have ordered my tent combo and it is supposed to be here by the 21st of June so I went ahead and planted the ten Kush Berry seeds in 4" pots. They are under an old light and shade I had left over form a long time ago. This isn't optimum but it will get me started.

Check out Urbanremo on youtube. He used to be one of Advanced Nutrients top sales guys or something and he also grows monster trees. I figured I would try his nutrients as they were cheaper than Advanced Nutrients.

Here is a link to one of his videos:

I see you got the tools handy to wrestle them monsters into submission when the time comes. :)

I've never heard of those nutes. How did you get turned on to them?

Nice strains too and you should be able to stock up on free seeds and make an interesting cross between the two.

I got my ACMPR last August out in BC just after the rule changes came into effect but never applied to grow. I'm still not sure if I'll apply even if I am successful getting a renewal but with an 8g/day limit I could grow 39 plants and live like a king if I were inclined to break a few laws which I'm not of course. Mainly for chronic depression and fairly severe arthritis that responds well to CBD strains so I've got some of those going into the grow room soon as I clear some of the almost finished girls out. I'm using a 1000MH magnetic and a Hortilux conversion bulb on a light rail for flowering almost 30 plants in pots. Using AN 3 - part nutes and a few supplements to git 'er dun.

If you don't mind, what condition(s) are you treating with cannabis? It's amazing what one plant can do.

Good luck and good growing!

I found out about the nutes while doing research on what was good and available in Canada. I found out about Remo and then watched a few of his videos and became a fan of his. So when decided to pull the trigger I just thought why not try them.

I severely crushed my left foot in 2000 with 2800lbs. The doctors are more than willing to give me all the percocet that I want but we all know where that leads with chronic pain. Also now that I am getting older, arthritis is setting in on my foot. I was in the MMPR for the past two years but now that I can grow in the ACMPR, I'm pretty happy to be able to ditch the LP's and grow my own.

I've heard of the guy. I got some free nutes a few years ago from a hydro store I go to in Grande Prairie once in a while called H.O.G., (High Output Garden), and they were supposed to be started by one of AN's top guys too. Makes me go Hmmmm . . .

My oldest boy was living in Maple Ridge but is now in Mission. Good to see Canadian companies giving AN a run for their money but I'm not ready to switch just yet. Been using AN for 16 years and just got 3gal of the 3-part and a big jar of Big Bud. I need to get back into DWC as I don't do as well in soil/soilless.

Worse thing I ever did is move up north here to Bumf**k, AB. I miss the valley and the great fishing something awful.

I see you're growing in coco. Peat based growing myself when I grow in pots. ProMix HP mainly but this grow I'm just finishing was a mix of that and their potting mix which doesn't have much real dirt in it. Has organic nutes in it and threw me off a bit with feeding. I need to post a few new pics in my grow journal now that I'm taking some down.

My #1 son got his foot crushed too and has pretty bad nerve pain but gets around and drives rigs now all across the country. I got arthritis in hands and feet that bothers me mostly. Makes trimming a bitch. Other big joints are on and off but always ache. I don't take any pharma meds for it or anything else either. Various vitamins, herbs, minerals and of course pot in various forms.

Time to check the lotto tickets. Maybe I'll get lucky then I can blow this popcorn stand and get lucky for real. ;)

Yeah, the nutrient thing is a bit of a scam. I have tried most of them at one point or another and I found it wasn't necessarily just the food that gave great yields but the overall operation from lights, temps, humidity, growing medium, watering schedules etc. But I had to go with something and Remo's videos are pretty entertaining, so I went with him. He also has a pretty good rep when I google him and his nutrients came as a kit for $139cdn delivered to my door.

I have used AN before but I found they have too many additives (19 at my last count). It's ridiculous. The Remo Nutrients are a two part system with 4 additives, keeps it simple.

I used to grow in 50/50 Promix HP/Perlite in 3 gallon grow bags and I would have 24 plants under each of my 12 1000w hps's but since I am pretty much starting everything from scratch in this grow, I figured I would try this coco thing in hempy buckets.

Besides base nutes I only use Big Bud and Rhino Skin on a regular basis. I love not having to dick around with the pH and only use RO water to make it even easier. Just did a test with Bud Ignitor and it failed so I'm glad I only got a 250ml bottle. Gonna test out the Bud Factor X this fall when I pick up the pace going into winter. Headed back out to BC in August again for my mom's 90th b-day and find a doc to renew my ACMPR. Plan to be gone for up to a month so need to keep the plant count low so the wife doesn't have too much to screw up. :) Just keep my moms alive 'til I get back or be gone before I get back and take your chickens with you! LOL

Must have been 15 years ago I bought a brick of coco, (reminded me of the bricks of pot we used to get in the 70s only no free stems and seeds or dead mice :D ). I just soaked it in water having no clue I was supposed to flush the salt out of it and proceeded to drive myself nuts trying to fix my screwed up plants. Once bitten, twice shy. I grew my first buds in '78 so it wasn't my first rodeo. Can't get it here anyways but there's lots of ProMix locally and I stocked up last fall on the HP, potting mix and the Veg&Herb blend. Got over 1000L of it sitting in my carport and now I want to get back into DWC. Go figure.

I an easily double my yield with hydro and hoping to get a CO2 controller to make use of the tank once I get it refilled. Then I should pull 3X.

As long as your not adding things like a silicate, the Remo Nutrients does the ph balancing act like Advanced does and they also claim that Remo Nutes are pretty much vegan. Not sure if my plants care about being vegan....who knows maybe they prefer steak.

I also have to keep my grow simple as I work away from home quite a bit and my wife has to tend to the plants. That being said she does have a green thumb but I still want to keep it simple and only add additional additives when absolutely needed or when I am home. This way if things go south then I have no one to blame but myself.

Rhino Skin is silicate and I've used it for years. What don't you like about it?

Vegan. lol Vegan is a native word that means "Lousy hunter". I guess they can call them that as long as they don't use blood meal.

Years back I was out of town for 4 weeks working at a rig way up north from me yet and came home to a room covered in spider mite webbing. Lost the whole grow and two mothers I loved.

It's not that I don't like silicates, it's more to keep things simple for my wife. If I add silicates then she will need to adjust the ph accordingly. I will use a silicate when I water though as I don't mind playing with the ph.

The Rhino Skin is buffered as when I first add it to the water the pH only goes up to about 8.5 compared to 10 like the cheap stuff I first tried over a decade ago. Once the rest of the nutes go in the pH is down below 7 and as they are pH Perfect nutes I don't concern myself with it any more and it works fine. I start using it with small seedlings all the way up to about week 5 of flower but at half or less levels than on the bottle. I'm not sure why they specify to use it after flowering starts but if you don't have real dirt and you're using RO water then the plants get absolutely no silica like they do in nature and it is beneficial. Most tap water has trace Si in it but I only use RO.

My hardly used pH pen sits on the shelf in a pool of storage sol'n. :)

Yeah I might have to breakdown and try the Rhino Skin. Its only $13 for 250ml and that should last me quite awhile with this small set up.

I just got a new 1L jug for $40. The last one lasted about 10 years but eventually went light lime green but there was only about 50ml left. When you get some leave one plant without and see if you can tell the difference. As a test you really need two clones from the same mother and do nothing different than use the RS on one like I did with my OG18 plants all from the same mom and the Bud Ignitor. Just gave it to one of the 5 and it's no better now that it's time to chop so it's off the list.

Time to go water plants and I think I'll get back to trimming tonight.

Well my hats off to Peak Seeds BC! I planted 10 of their Kush Berry seeds on Friday and Monday morning I have 10 seedlings popping up through the surface. I decided to move my light within a couple inches above them to prevent stretching until my tent and lights get here this week. It feels so good to be growing again!

100% is damn good. Good seeds and/or good technique helps for sure. I flick the sprouts around as bit to toughen the stems and keep them from stretching. Gently at first then after a while hard enough to leave some drooped over for while but they stand up straight in a couple of hours and seem to benefit from it. I killed a few following some advice to keep a strong fan on them so now use a light breeze and bashing around.

Keep 'em growing!
