My ugly-ass clones

Hey everyone!

It's been several years since I've cloned, and I can't remember if this is normal. My clones are rooting fine, but the clones themselves look horrible.

I've got two bubbler totes with tons of bubbles. Bottom one has straight tap water, and the top has GH Floro nutes using their chart. When the clones on the bottom get a good set of roots, I move them to the top cloner.

Going by week 1 of the GH chart, I'm using 2.5ml/gal Micro, Gro, and Bloom. My tds was at about 400ppm when I started less than a week ago, and now it's around 260ppm. My pH is 5.9.

Bottom cloner - Plain tap water, no nutes. The healthy looking clones in the center were taken more recently from a more established mother. The others are 10 to 14 days old.

Top cloner - pH balanced, 260ppm down from 400ppm

GH feed chart:

Can any of you pro gardeners give me a hand with this. Greatly appreciated!

I was thinking it might be nute burn, so I dumped the soup and filled'r up with pH balanced tap.

Do you not keep a humidity dome on them? I root my clones in rooting plugs under a ghetto humidity dome and they come out looking relatively healthy, all rooting in 2 weeks.

Its 4 different strains is why some are so much more rooted than others

are you using a dome? A lot of my cuttings used to end up that way until i ditched the dome, unless you live in a very dry climate you may not need one. If you haven't used a dome your ambient humidity and indoor conditions may be low enough to require a lid

Sorry to thread jack. But, how long should one wait to start seeing roots from their potential clones.

Thats odd. I use a dome with good results in 100% humidity. Humidities relatively high here but ive found the dome always helps. Only once had problems with it and that was cause fungus gnats got in

Just curious that's all.

I've tried domed. No dome. Water rooted. And soil. They all seem to end up looking like complete arse. And just die on me.

And by that I mean. They go yellow and crispy. And don't recover.

I also sterilize my tools before making any cuts. Not sure what I'm doing wrong.

I only use a done for the first couple days. After that, I must them a few times throughout the day with pH balanced spring water.

Takes 10 to 14 days on average. Some take more time, some less. Don't use to powerful of a light (cfl's and floro tubes work well).

Over thinking it.

I literally cut clones with an unsterile blade and put straight into soil with no dome. If they need a dome I will add one. Most don't unless its really dry where you are.

I like using the dome right at the beginning so my clones don't flop over as they're adjusting.

Could it be the plant? Are some just harder to clone?
It's Headband. Not sure if she's easy to clone from or not. I've got lots of roots. Someone suggested that I might have too much light. I had 5x23w cfl's on the top Cloner. I turned off 2 of them and raised the lights a few inches.

Hmmm... Interesting. Because I've got a shitty rgb led strip with two 20w cfls in my space bucket where I'm trying to clone. One is 5000k. The other is a 3000k.

Haven't a clue what strain I'm trying to clone as its a mystery bean. Smokes well too. Which is why I've been trying to clone it.

I forgot if you mentioned temperatures in your cloner. Not sure if that plays a part. But it might.

Temps are consistently 82 degrees (in the closet).

From my experiences, a humidty dome was key for clones. I also misted them daily and they were happy. Without real high humidity mine struggled, but probably each strain is a bit different.

Not dry here. We get rain nearly 2/3 the year. Rh sits above 40 most of the time. Seen average of about 60% rh recently.

Your temps look normal. Plants wouldn't stress in that.

My RH sits around 40%. But we get lots of rain in OR and when the rainy season starts, I'm sure RH will rise.
