I've tried lighter line on a baitcaster and it doesn't work out well for me. I sometimes use a 4 foot fluorocarbon leader with the senko if the cover isn't too heavy.

Biggest largemouth I ever caught I was drifting for big blue cats in the winter using crappie/white perch heads for bait lol

Mono works great in many situations. I use Maxima Chameleon leader when fishing for salmon in rivers. Tough as nails!

Try this:
- dip worm, wait for bites
- land small perch
- Tie on a big hook and stick it through the back of the perch (don't hit the vitals)
- Clip on a plastic water bottle for a bobber
- Cast that sucker close to some weeds or brush
- Wait for a lunker to come out and slam it

I use 6 lb spiderwire floro in the rivers. Break offs are rare. I like catching small jaws from the river.

my rig if you can call it that is a six foot ugly stick, and a zebco 33 with 10 lb test. I would imagine somewhere the first 33 i ever bought is still working or easily repairable, and probably still casts a country mile lol.
black and blue worm is a sweet combo, I'm so far out of date on gear all i know are the older ones, i grew up with subscriptions to field and stream and bassmasters magazine.
The first issue i had was when that guy out in Cali caught the near record largemouth in lake Castaic, he caught it on a live crawdad i think, or maybe that was the original record can't remember.
Apparently the local fishery service had flooded Castaic with both Florida hybrid monster bass and fatty rainbow trout. The bass ate the trout like a buffet and got big. The guy was something like five ounces short of the record, a good size baitfish, and a million dollar prize Plus endorsement deals from gear companies. Not sure if the old record still stands

Couldn't have been a tournament if he used live bait. I try and stay away from live bait unless I'm perch fishing, then I use minnows!

Do any of you use the old #4 or #5 Mepp's inline spinner in White and Red? It's a Bass and Pike killer for me.

he was recreationally fishing, but i believe i have it mixed up, i know the original world record bass was caught on live bait in the 30's, they ate it it was caught for food but the weigh in was done by some sort of official something or other. Now that i think about it the Castaic bass may have been caught on a soft plastic

Mepps Aglia was my favorite of theirs, neon colors always worked well here

Mr Twister grub. 1/8 ounce head in white. Bounced along the shale rocks. Yellow color in muddy water.
Works best on running stripers. Big mouth is second. Big Mouth prefers a white grub on a white skirt spinner bait.

My favorite spinner was the Mepps Aglia Long. Not sure if they make it anymore. Had a holographic sticker on the willow-leaf blade and a red band on shank of the treble hook. Caught a zillion crappie & perch with those! A few bass too...

I'm sure they still make them. I've used that one as well. I've pretty much used every #4 and 5 Mepps ever made. Such a versatile lure. Can catch pretty much anything.

I've caught more fish using those lures then anything else I've tried. To include my biggest catches. Top water spinner in the early morning would be my second luckiest. Otherwise, it's a simple Mr Twister grub.
