LOL you are such a sweetheart!
My son was charged last weekend on a hike, but fortunately saw the bear charging - hit it in the face & chest with bear spray at around 10'. He said it bawled & rolled around for a second before it took off.

These ballistics are surprisingly close to .45 LC cartridges loaded for the heavy 5-shot revolvers as Linebaugh et al. set them up. I'd rather have one of those custom .45s, but the .50 AE and its partner 49-bore the .500S&W develop those numbers for less outlay.
I'd love to spend a day fucking around with an AR upper in .50 Beowulf. Now that would be almost as good to have as a 12-gauge riot gun loaded with alternating slug and 000 Buck.

The British built massive double rifles of four- and even two-bore (yes, half a pound of lead per conical projectile) as specialist guns for surviving encounters with African Big 5 animals.
I cannot imagine what it would be like to be standing behind one such when it erupts. I vaguely remember reports of recoil so severe, a user fired one (1) shot, then had to lie down afterward.

and speaking of large bore weapons, something I heard of last year when one came up for auction, a punt gun, used for "harvesting" game birds (50-90 birds) with one shot.
Punt gun - not shoulder fired, they were attached to a boat (punt) and stealthily secreted into flocks of sleeping ducks.
One would then intentionally make a noise & when everybody looked up? BOOM!

The British had an anti-tank .55-cal rifle called the Boys (usually heard as Boys Rifle). It reduced Men to tears, despite the considerable muzzle brake.
I remember reading Rourke (possibly) writing that he touched one off on an elephant and the recoil caused him to fire the second bbl.
Woke up laying on the ground with a mouth full of dirt.

What powder do you use? H110? I've never loaded them 500's before. I use the H110 for my 460's and my 44mags.Obviously the population is making a rabbit like come-back.

It has been a couple of years since I had to reload this one - I believe I was using Hodgdon Lil' Gun Powder but will have to check my notes to be sure.
One thing you have to do with this round is ensure you use large rifle primers (and brass that can accommodate them) - the jacket on pistol primers is too thin & they can (and will) perforate causing a blow torch effect that will melt the firing pin mechanism & jam the gun.
