Cheers Ares...your 3points regarding the reason to buy the light are spot on..HPS for me is a definite no no..purely for the heat..I just couldn't be bothered getting into an argument with the other guy on why I didn't buy HPS..anyway, got money saved for a COB unit now so well see how it compares...hopefully all the HPS comments can go away..we all know what they areThis is a great thread! Keep it up. I have the Viparspectra Par 600 myself. First grow still in veg. Also plan to upgrade to cobs and use the Vipar for vegging. Good luck!
As a side note, I read this and that's what made me want chime into this thread. I purchased my light for 3 reasons:
1.) I didn't feel like dealing with the heat from HPS in my tiny 2x2.5x5 foot grow space in a closet that the tent barely squeezes into. I can also honestly say I am surprised at how much heat the LED gives off. From all the things I had read, in my mind, I never really thought I would deal with heat issues, period. Boy was I wrong!
2.) I had very little knowledge of what COBs were and what I did know at the time they looked very daunting to try and take on. To a beginner with zero experience, trying to read books, threads and then piece it all together with no in-person help can feel very overwhelming.
3.) I figured the put together LED panel was good enough for me to dip my toes into the scene and if I really love this, then the sky is the limit.
Yes spot on statement. I also didn't expect to grow donkey dick colas with my vipar.... Lol. But would like to increase yield with it while I'm using it. But will definitely be building a better more efficient COB set-up. I'm looking forward to seeing much bigger buds for the same watts out!Cheers Ares...your 3points regarding the reason to buy the light are spot on..HPS for me is a definite no no..purely for the heat..I just couldn't be bothered getting into an argument with the other guy on why I didn't buy HPS..anyway, got money saved for a COB unit now so well see how it compares...hopefully all the HPS comments can go away..we all know what they are
looks a nice bud...keep it up mateThese buds are more dense than the auto grow. More weight and more buds I'm hoping for 8.5 ozView attachment 3999044 day 32 since first pistil under vipar 600
Haha thanks. I'm glad you are going to be looking into getting a COB soon. Will definitely have to keep us updated!Cheers Ares...your 3points regarding the reason to buy the light are spot on..HPS for me is a definite no no..purely for the heat..I just couldn't be bothered getting into an argument with the other guy on why I didn't buy HPS..anyway, got money saved for a COB unit now so well see how it compares...hopefully all the HPS comments can go away..we all know what they are
Looking awesome. How long have you been using your light? These buds are more dense than the auto grow. More weight and more buds I'm hoping for 8.5 ozView attachment 3999044 day 32 since first pistil under vipar 600
About 3 months in a 2x3 closetLooking awesome. How long have you been using your light?
my first ever grow..3x2 wardrobe..haha...not bad reallyLooking awesome. How long have you been using your light?
I am using a 450w viparspectra to supplement my 400 watt hps in my 4x4 tent. Just finished 3rd week of flowering and am very satisisfied with results so farAnd that's where you see that those cheap LED's just simply don't have it. With a 600 watt HPS that doesn't cost much more than that, your buds would be that thick half way down the stalks at least rather than just at the top few inches.
You get what you pay for.
Is that factoring in the extra heat from a stronger hid unit. Which in turn would actually decrease quality of bud if temps got to high and then would need to invest even more money into a bigger exhaust fan which then also adds an extra accessory to monlthy electric costs . I already had a 400 watt hps and temps were manageable but not ideal. I couldn't afford that mich extra heat upgrading to a 600watt hps or adding another hid on top of my 400. Which is why i opted for the cheap led. Which most definetly made a difference in speed of growth. And my temps only rose about 2 degrees total. Meaning I didn't need to upgrade to larger, louder, and higher wattage fans. You obviously are impaired.
He spent FAR more than that on his nutrients alone. It kills me how people spend hundreds upon hundreds on tents, medium, nutrients, testing instruments, all kinds of bullshit...then they get cheap on the most important part of it all, the light.
It's like building a race car: He went out and bought a bullet proof bottom end, best cam, lifters, rods, all of it. Top of the line heads, exhaust and then at the very end he gets cheap and puts an old, outdated, piece of shit carburetor on it.
He would have been better served to wait the 4 weeks to save up the money for the decent light. After all, it would have doubled his yield and in so doing paid for itself 5 times over.
It makes absolutely ZERO sense at all to do that.
That's a bunch of buds. Man to be honest, I thought those buds would be bigger with 400w of HPS. I'm not trying to knock your grow at all. It's only day 21 from when I flipped to 12/12. And it's in a 4x4 tent which a 400 hps is barely able to hit all corners which is why i have the led to add to the tentThat's a bunch of buds. Changed some things tonight in my grow room, temps w/ lights on get up to 86f lights off 69f. So now I have a dedicated supply air run going to the room. Hoping to increase trichome production bud size the best I can with my "cheapo light" lolOh that's awesome all 3 of us are in the same boat with similar lights and grow sizes.
I germ'd on 7/9. She grew slow because I had to leave just the blue spectrum on and had a N deficiency. Trucking along now since transplant and recently had to toss some DIY CO2 yeast in there. Finally got my environment dialed in the best I can.
My vipar does put off heat but is very manageable, my 600 vipar doesn't feel my room either so I've cfL's in the corners. It's only day 21 from when I flipped to 12/12. And it's in a 4x4 tent which a 400 hps is barely able to hit all corners which is why i have the led to add to the tent
I've only got two plants in my 4x4 currently. The pics I posted above are of the quicksand kush. Which is flowering quite a bit quicker then the OG GHOST train haze. The quicksand buds are already caked in resin. Grew really strong and survived a russet mite infestation I just experiencedMy vipar does put off heat but is very manageable, my 600 vipar doesn't feel my room either so I've cfL's in the corners.
I read up one how running mixed hps and led could be beneficial. Idea being best of both worlds. Having good canopy penetration with the hps and better spectrum with LED. Which is why i opted to give it a whirl. All together my hps and led lights cost less than $250My vipar does put off heat but is very manageable, my 600 vipar doesn't feel my room either so I've cfL's in the corners.
Kimda hard to tell from the picture but even the buds that are much lower on the branches are damn near same size as the buds on top of the branches . The Hps is definetly helping it out there. I alternate what side of the tent I have the led shining on every other week. I noticed the resin production really increases after a couple days of Led. Maybe it's jist in my head but I definetly feel like each light is benefiting my plant in different waysThat's a bunch of buds.
