Never planned a for/against auto thread but hey, go ahead - its always interesting to hear peoples thoughts
About the trichs, both from Leafly:
https://www.leafly.com/news/cannabis-101/what-is-kief
"Trichomes on the marijuana plant keep away hungry herbivores by producing an intense psychoactive experience, theoretically disorienting the animal and preventing it from eating the rest of the plant. The resin’s strong, distinct odor also attracts pollinating insects and predators, which might keep herbivore populations at bay."
What do they mean by "predators"?
https://www.leafly.com/news/cannabis-101/what-are-trichomes-on-cannabis
"In cannabis, trichomes function as a defense mechanism. When female cannabis plants begin to produce flowers in the wild, they often become vulnerable to various insects and animals as well as non-living environmental variables such as potentially harmful UV rays. Trichomes serve as a deterrent for animals because their bitter taste and strong aromas render cannabis flowers unpalatable. At the same time, they also serve a dual function in protecting their plants from damaging winds and even some varieties of fungal growth."
So theyre giving out a BUNCH of potential functions of trichs...i dunno I cant help feeling theres a lot of pure speculation about these reasons for resin glands.
Also interesting the suggestion that the trichs are always there but are just less visible in cloudy weather...i need a good magnifying glass to check that!
