That's what I've been doing up there for the last 16 years but it would be nice to use some of my 7.5 acres to stock up with free light in the summer.

I've put 3 month old, 4ft tall plants out in early June and they still won't flower out in time without being able to keep them dark for 12 hours/day. May build a 10x10 shed/greenhouse to do just that but wish I didn't have to.
Why not Buy a $100 grow tent . They work so good. you can buy a 10x10 if thats what you want.

Plant them in 7 gallon pots, then you can take them inside for night time.

If you had my buggered up 62 yo back and my arthritis you wouldn't be packing a dozen or more 7 gal pots anywhere. lol

I'm gonna breed myself a few hundred auto seeds and just plant them outside early June and see if they finish next summer. Lots of unused dugouts around where I live so I don't have to grow them on my own property.

I'm expanding my indoor grow so I should be able to be cropping a half to a pound a month by Xmas. That'll be more than enough. :)

Are you going to use Quicksilver to make the plant seed?

Hiya
I read that resins main function is to protect the plant from sunshine, this would back up my observation. However i also read that resins main job is to attract pollen; in this case resin production should happen regardless of conditions.
Wrong. Trichomes are a plant defense mechanism. Its the pistil's job to collect pollen and create a seed. Trichomes also change color with maturity and will be more reflective when they are young and clear vs. mature and milky/amber. Your plant is not losing trichomes unless it is in heavy rains, they are just changing in reflectivity depending on the available light as well as their age.

Take a bud picture with a flash on and see how shiny your plant looks.

I have a pound of mercury but don't know how I would make seed with it. ;)

Quicksilver is an old time term referring to the metal mercury to those not familiar with it.

I assume Quicksilver is some sort of chemical used to make feminized seed but I do it the old fashioned way by saving pollen from males and dusting a few lower buds to make some free beans. I make my own colloidal silver and one of these days I'll get around to trying to make some fem seeds.

Never planned a for/against auto thread but hey, go ahead - its always interesting to hear peoples thoughts :)
About the trichs, both from Leafly:
https://www.leafly.com/news/cannabis-101/what-is-kief
"Trichomes on the marijuana plant keep away hungry herbivores by producing an intense psychoactive experience, theoretically disorienting the animal and preventing it from eating the rest of the plant. The resin’s strong, distinct odor also attracts pollinating insects and predators, which might keep herbivore populations at bay."
What do they mean by "predators"?
https://www.leafly.com/news/cannabis-101/what-are-trichomes-on-cannabis
"In cannabis, trichomes function as a defense mechanism. When female cannabis plants begin to produce flowers in the wild, they often become vulnerable to various insects and animals as well as non-living environmental variables such as potentially harmful UV rays. Trichomes serve as a deterrent for animals because their bitter taste and strong aromas render cannabis flowers unpalatable. At the same time, they also serve a dual function in protecting their plants from damaging winds and even some varieties of fungal growth."
So theyre giving out a BUNCH of potential functions of trichs...i dunno I cant help feeling theres a lot of pure speculation about these reasons for resin glands.
Also interesting the suggestion that the trichs are always there but are just less visible in cloudy weather...i need a good magnifying glass to check that!
cheers

Oh ok, I'm thinking about silver wire with a 9volt battery n a container of water.

Two .9999 silver wires with half a .9999 Canadian silver dollar at each end attached to a 30V DC power supply in a 1L flat bottomed boiling ball sitting on a magnetic stirrer. Takes about 6 - 7 hours to make a liter of 12 - 15ppm CS. Made over a gallon of it about 2 years ago and running low now so time to put it back to work. No access to my pics until I get home.

Sounds complicated and expensive. Lol
I know we can buy seeds online, but do you know if we can buy pollen? I didn't know you could store it n use it later.
