Harvest - Yes or Not yet?

I'll bet just about any person floating the idea of flushing isn't quite as studied on nutrient chemistry as they'd like to be.

I see alot of talk on this topic everyday, most regulars would likely agree (or my meds need changin'). But it seems like ultimately it's used as a cure, whether the grower admits it or not.

There's always gonna be that person who details their nute plan to the enth fucking degree, whether anyone cares or not. Followed by thier dramatic flush plan. I don't bother engaging them. Just seems like it'll be a frustrating waste of time. Nonetheless, some are close, and some (despite themselves) pull it off, in spite of nature. Damn those lucky fuckers, at least they read the labels.

More generally, I see posts by T-Bags. T-Bags who fuck up a strain that will grow great in asbestos while being fed gallons of kerosene, cat piss, and cucumbers. The T-Bags fuck up a run or two early on trying to figure it out; it never happens.

They oversteer into leeching thier medium to try and unfuck the fuckery they've been doing. This isn't, nor has it ever been an acceptable practice in growing shit, or any other discipline a person might try.

Then try and brag about the whole thing.

Seriously, who the hell takes something in perfect order, beats the shit out of it, and expects to be heralded because it still has decent (not optimum) function.? Assholes.

Sooo I harvested one plant a week ago as it was for some reason far more developed then the others. Im happy I did so. Meds look, smell and taste good. Now for the other five that are the big budded ones. Cant wait. love all the info, But holy shit we all need to chill. The original question was Harvest Yes or No ? not cure yes or no, flush yes or no ? LMAO.
Love seeing how passionate we all are about all the hard work all of us put into our babies

be nice if people just answered the Q asked sometimes wouldnt it, especially knowing that mentioning flushing always causes debate.

Nice outcome from memory it was a first grow? Congrats either way!!

Laughing at this thread. Really hard. :)

To answer your "is it ready yet?" It's hard to tell with the lighting, by id give it a week :)

It's funny so the guy tbag insists that even if we don't know we're flushing or say we don't; we are.

Now I'm a sense I guess that's true, if you count flushing as watering the plant all the way through.

Here's a situation for yeah, a person growing in the ground, and I guess and or in a pot outdoors. They haven't fed their plant anything except what was in the soil itself. Plants are green, except one is yellowing a bit as it comes close to harvest. Natural.

Would you "flush" ?

Because in my opinion flushing, (if even a thing) since I grow very organic; would be pointless? As I the facts of you cannot flush a plant out and all stated in the previous pages on this thread.

I don't know, this thread got me thinking and I like putting out situational questions :)

Stay happy,
Cheers!

The basics of flushing are to flush the nutrients out of the media so that the plant has to use whatever excess it may have stored in its own tissues. As has been very thoroughly covered this isn't how plants work. And it is. If you're running heavy on the synthetics, like hydro, then you have to flush. In organics, or even mostly organic, most nutrients aren't so easy taken up by the plant that it becomes saturated in disgusting chemicals forcing you to have to do a flush. Regardless, flushing starves the plant in the final days at a critical time.

And even after all of this thorough discussion of flushing no one has been thorough about the harvest window.

The most basic is to harvest for peak potency or peak yield. Some like a spot in the middle where the resin glands lean more towards cloudy/amber than clear/cloudy.

Peak potency is at the point where you're starting to see more resin glands going cloudy than new, clear ones. There shouldn't be too many amber resin glands. The older they are the more the thc degraded into less active compounds. Keep in mind that the plant is still essentially alive after you cut it for awhile so the resin glands will continue to change a bit.

Peak yield is two different things depending on whether were talking about a perpetual harvest where you have another set of vegging plants waiting their turn it or nit. With a perpetual harvest you want to cut them at the point when they are fully mature but they are deep enough into flowering that they are slowing down to the point of diminishing returns. This won't get the best quality since this won't always line up with the peak potency window so whether your growing commercially or for personal use I wouldn't go by this method. If not in a perpetual harvest scenario peak yield is at the point where there's essentially no new flower (individual calyxes)production. Each individual calyx has a pair of hairs so when you start to not see any new hairs your at peak yield.

That middle ground is at the point where you've past peak potency but likely before peak yield. It's basically about personal preference and even for the same individual it will be different from strain to strain. Basically the high and flavor/nose changes. The longer past peak potency the more couch lock or at least body oriented the high becomes.

As for yours in the original post the first looked like it was probably a bit past peak potency and the others looked like they were still a week or two away. I hope this helps, at least for the next time around since you've probably finished that batch up by now. I know I'm a newly minted RIU member but I do have quite a bit of experience and when you consider that one of my greatest passions is helping people grow this plant and one of my greatest peeves is what happens when clashing opinions and a few well fortified egos get involved you can understand why I took the time to post this point by point tutorial. Or not. Either way I hope this answers all of questions.

Just to clarify. If I run perpetual I'm going to harvest after peak why? I'm not sure I get that. Can I not just harvest when I feel it's done and move the plant out and a new one in, or any number? Peak for me is when production stops which coincides with mostly cloudy, not amber. I have stoped checking with a scope because I typically harvest before any, or very little amber, and the plants waiting in the wings have no bearing, they get moved when needed. I have a few questions about your disgusting salts but perhaps another time in an actual flushing.

Pretty sure OPs original post asked when flushing should start but I could have been high lol. Anywhooo great first grow :).
