I recently purchased 2- 260 XL kits from HLG for a 4x4. I have them mounted 18" above some plants that have been flowering for about 5 weeks. The 2 fixtures are hanging 8" away from each other. I bought a Sun Systems par meter have been getting pretty good coverage around 500 umol in the corners and 700-800+ everywhere else. I have the fixtures turned all the way up and the power draw is about 610 watts combined. My 6 cob Vero V7 has 620 watts and ranges between 500- 950. I've had really good results with the cobs, but the quantum boards were a good amount cheaper so I decided to give them a try.

I'm hoping I'm not sacrificing yield with the quantums. Do you guys think I need to hang them lower/higher or closer/further from each other?

So I think where on the road to recovery.....The ladies are starting to green back up now

According to my kill a watt monitor they are both pulling 110w each out of the wall now that I dimmed them.

I plan on flipping to 12/12 in a few days. So my question now is how fast and how much should I be increasing the power on there’s qb’s as far as watts go ?

That's where grower talent comes into play. Its all up to you to decide on when and how much to turn it up. The height of the light and how much you have it tuned up is a balance.

Thanks fir the advice. I think I’ll just lower the lights a bit first before I start increasing the power. I’m at 22” now. So I’ll just lower them a couple inches every few days......see how that plays out

convinced on the QB purchase. They Will be in a 3x3 tent. Would one 260 watt kit work for the 3x3 or will that b insufficient?

To improve umol in the corners you can stick a cob in each one. You can buy a couple of canopy rails from rapid. @Growmau5 reps that company plus those rails support most other led tech right now, 'connect ready' I believe the phrase is.

There is no unknown metrics to have a successful grow. Growing can be quantified ... Money > "Grower Talent". PAR meter ($$$) replaces a growers intuition or so called talent.

Lookin mucho better, mine are too.

They still look a lil rough but I think at this point it's more because the leaves don't heal. But the buds are looking good, nice and sugary. Im at 180 watts, 90 per board at 25 inches. They seem to be doing well.

I had a phosphorus deficiency that i corrected as well.
Still kinda learning these lights, but doing better.

Interesting that were at the same watts but I'm 12 inches from the top at flower. Light meters aside I think it comes down to the individual grower and plants. It's nice to have the ability to have the foot on the gas.

I agree. I tried stepping back up to 200 watts, but leaves started to taco again at 190 so i went back to 180.

Im on a big driver tho, hlg 320h c1400b, wonder if that makes a difference?

I'm having a hell of a time with mine. I vegged them with T5's healthy and green (very weak diffused light) then I put them under the QB's and it fucked them up pretty good. The OG's took the worse of it while the Sativa Hybrids were to a less effect. I Don't want to buy a par meter or even a lux meter for that matter. I feel like this is a common problem with eyeballing the QB's. The light doesn't even look that intense on the canopy but the plant says otherwise. The stalks got noticeably girthy in those few days though.

In veg I stay at 100w at 18in, as I transition to flower I start ramping up the W and stay at 18in "unless the plants tell me otherwise". Once I'm at my max "185W" at week three or so I'll move the light down "unless the plants tell me otherwise".

Sprouts and seedlings while in jiffy pellets get T5 in the dome "cuts too". Once they get the second set of true leaves they get LED from a Philips bulb 56K 1000 lumins to start and condition them early on. Mind you my bulbs are a good 20 inches from the babies.

All I use is a cheap $10 3 in 1 moisture meter that has a light sensor on it "measures in foot candles lolz" 600fc will keep them alive and over 1000 will cook them. I use the same meter in my tent with the QBs. Is it a par meter ? Hell no but at least it gives me some idea to go off of.

Edit, my QBs peg out my little cheap meter FYI. At full flower and W

Anyone going with QBs mid grow need to do what's called "Harding off" there plants. Any plant started and grown in doors that goes outside in the sun will die unless you harden them off.

Hey all,
I have a question regarding light output comparison for HLG boards. Please let me preface this question with mention to the fact that I know we don't necessarily measure wattage as our comparative measurement as much as we measure PAR.

That being said, I just need to know if there's a particular rule of thumb used for measuring the comparison in wattage of the boards vs wattage of HID? HLG compares the 550 model to 1k SE bulb. Growerslights.com actually gives the following comparisons in various model description:

135 watt QB kit - equivalent to 250 watt HID

IIRC, the board for this kit is the QB 288 and is the same board used for the 320 watt XL kits I have.

I have 2 320 watt kits (6 QB 288 boards in total). I used my killawatt power monitor to dial both drivers down to 250 watts each (just too hot at maximum output) for a total of 500 watts from the wall. By my logic, this means I should be right at 1k comparative watts....correct? If I'm tracking correctly, how are these comparison numbers calculated for someone (like me) with basic knowledge and no professional meters?
