DIY with Quantum Boards

Not quite. 60W over 120 diodes vs 60W over 288 diodes, means the 288's are running at roughly half the current. That increases their efficiency by around 10%. That means 10% less heat at the board surface with the 288. BUT - the 120 has quite a bit more surface area, so temperature wise, its probably a wash.
But the price tag of the 120 is so affordable, and when it comes to international shipping the heat sink shipping prices are ridiculous. All and all, the best value for money for a non US based cabinet/tent grower like myself would be in stacking the qb120.

Yes, LED's are more efficient the less you drive them.

Instead of looking at total Lumens, look at what the individual LED's will be driven at.

Assuming 60 watts going into each board, the 120 board LED's will be driven at 3.03v @ .165mAh per LED, the 288 board 2.87v @ .0727mAh per LED, and 2.86v @ 2.86v @ .0682mAh

Individual LED
QB120 = 168.4lm/W,
QB288 = 189.4lm/W
308 = 190.7 lm/W
So a 304 will give about 22 lumen per watt more. x600watt = 13200 extra lumen
Thats like 13% more.
But the 304 is about 3x times the price of a 120. So what is wisdom...
10x 304 @60w or 12x 120 @50w

And there's another question..
Seems that the curve of 3000k and 3500k are about te same in orange/red area but 3500 has more blues. Wouldn't the 3500 be the better choice because you get the best of both colours?

They should run cooler but 10% less heat means also 10% more light so bigger nuts?

I've thought about this. I have some tiny autos that I really like. A shelf with QB120's run soft would be great IMO give it a try!

I know this is not exactly QB related, but I´ve been thinking of setting of a clone / seedling tent of about 2 x 2 or 2 x 4, with three or four levels using 4 QB 120. Has anyone organized something like this? Any suggestions on what I can use for (hopefully cheap) shelving?

You could build your own like stadium benches, tiered. Then you have height options by simply moving a plant vs having to mess with the shelving itself

I like grow tents, as they keep dirt in/dust out, can be used to contain light, etc., and I´d rather have this set up as permanently as I can. I intend to use this to build and keep my strain / cut collection, and also to raise seedlings.

3 or 4 shelves x (2x4 or 2x2 tent area) means a lot of plant capacity when dealing with babies and clones. Have you looked into other shelving option? It would be nice to be able to adjust the height and add/remore shelves if needed.

Sadly, 3500k is no longer an option for Quantum Boards, and hasn't been for several months. I recall Robin or Stephen saying that they only stocked the 3500k until production of the 3000k boards had ramped up? Something like that anyway - either of them could shed more light on that. Personally, I quite like the one 3500k board that I have, and wish I could have another! I know the spectrum isn't that different, so maybe it doesn't really matter, but I'd like to try a run in a 2x4 under two 3500k boards so I could compare to the 3000k I grow under. Oh well!

Still pondering which boards to get. I kinda want to get some of the 120 boards but not to use wih my hlg-240-1050 as I wont have the space in my tent for the amount of boards I would need driving them that soft. Could only fit six 120’s in my tent but for the price & better coverage I think I’ll go that route. I’ll just have to buy another driver.

I have to wonder if HLG really expected the QB120 to be as popular as it is. They released a cheap little veg-light, but more and more often, it turns up in full builds. Pretty fucking cool.

Seems there is plenty of blue in the 3000k quantum boards. Comparable to that of a 3500k cob.

It is pretty cool how customizable these lights are for our needs. Cant wait to get my hands on them!! I used to be a seed buying junkie now I just want more & better lights lol.

Not 120s but the same idea. I have strip lights running at ~half their test current less than 6" from the plants. This strain barely stretches so I won't need much more height than this.

Looking great mate. I'm having a bit of an hight issue myself, but it seems that they are doing great. What's growing in there?
Sfv og I can raise the lights I just don't want to I'm willing to sacrifice that top bud so the lowers can get more light. These plants grew crazy fast they are 5 feet from the ground I vegged 16 days from clone an topped most of the plants twice to keep them from growing too much. That middle plant on the left that's the tallest is the only one that didn't get topped because it was a runt haha

Mirror room corner grow -

Blue dream ( Humboldt auto )
Godfather OG
Ducks Foot
Candy Dream

Been very chilly in the evenings dropping to low 60 ( Cali ) ...
Plants are getting some purple stems , which happens as temps drop but also may be a bit of phosphorus def. So I bumped the CALMAG a little and P to compensate for slower uptake. Leaves are praying so I should be ok as I ride out the last weeks.
Not creeping into leaf veins , but am watching .

But I also added a 1/4 tsp of beastie to my watering. Plants are stinking and getting chunkier. Quantums are tighting the lower nicely and are getting pretty dense.
Check out the lower blue dream nugs...........

QB 288 ( 260 ) 3000k
3 QB 304 ( 3500k ) - dimmed to around 55 watts per board.
( running as supplemental. )
