Too much to ask for?

Is an ounce per plant indoors, with all the proper equipment, too much to expect? I need to know before I get too disappointed. Any info would be great. If I could hear what other people have gotten that would really help, they were a foot tall before I made the switch to 12/12. Thanks guys.:-o

aim low
than you wont be disappointed
it depends on strain and alot of variables how much you will get

This is what I got. 3 platinum bubba kush, 9 purple bubba kush, 1 banana kush, and 3 unknown strains(bagseed) 16 in total. Under a 600 watt lumatek light that puts out as much light as a 1000 watter, also a 125 watt cfl for extra lighting, they are all at about 16 to 18 inches tall beginning their 3rd week of flowering tommorrow. I've got all the works, air cooled light, intake fan, exhaust fan, two pedestal fans for air circulation, a can fan filter 100, air conditioning etc.... Hope this info helps.

I'd say with a little luck you can yield a pound under 600w.

What you have to understand is that the best way to model yield is as a function of how many lumens of light the plant is able to absorb, not the number of plants. With 600w you should be able to support a nice 4ftx4ft canopy of budsites. You can do this with a few plants that are trained and vegged out for a long time (a la SCRoG) or 16 little plants grown SoG style.

With ideal conditions (perfectly healthy plants of all the same strain grown in a perfect enviroment with CO2 enrichment) you can approach 1 gram per watt of HID lighting. Strain plays a large role as well. I forgot but did you say your growing a kush variety? usually a low yielder.

Also I am skeptical of your 600 w lumatek that "puts out as much light as a 1000 w". A 1000 w what? Maybe 1000 watts of CFLs but 600 watts of HID is pretty much the standard for lumen efficiency, unless there has been some modern breakthrough in light technology that has somehow escaped being noticed by the grow community (doubt it).

I'll revise my thesis and say you will probably get 1/2 pound from your Kush varieties growing them under a 600 w HPS, if you know what your doing which seems like kinda a stretch.

The lumatek 600 watt digital ballast is within 10 % of the light produced by a standard 1000 watt core and coil ballast(hps), and what makes you think that I don't know what I'm doing, stranger? Let me read to you what I've researched about this light I have. Oh shit I'm wrong, here is what it says "Test data has shown that a Lumatek 600 watt ballast produces within 5% of the usable light of a 1000 watt core and coil ballast." also "Lumatek digital ballasts put out about 10% more light than other digital ballasts." Okay so it's stronger than I thought, that's pretty damn close to a 1000 watt H.I.D. for only 600 watts of electricity. How does that sound huh, stranger? There was a breakthrough in lighting technology, it's called digital ballasts, I'm surprised you've never heard of this breakthrough.

Digital ballasts dont put out any more light than magnetic ballasts. PERIOD. They use less energy on startup, and dont buzz, but most cause distortion on all the surrounding phone lines, I dont think this problem is so bad with Lumatech digi ballasts though.

The thing that DOES matter is the type of Bulb you are using, even a high output 600w hps is still nowhere near the 140,000k lumens of a regular 1000w HPS bulb.

600w HPS average 90 000 lumens, 1000w 140 000.

That being said the lumen output really doesnt mean anything once you start trying to increase your grow area, especially with 1 light. To increase your grow area you raise the light, and this loses lumens big time, this is why I would go for 1000w any day if I was using less that 3 lights at 600w.

As the light moves it diminishes at 1/distance2. 1ft= 1000 FTC (foot to candle) 2ft=250FTC, 3ft=111 ftc...etc.

Now that thats out of the way, an ouce per plant is definitely achievable, but I really cant say if you will achieve that without some pics.

Ideal conditions, with c02, veg to 2ft and lollipopped I would expect at least 2 ounces per plant under a 600, up to a max area of 3.5x3.5 outside that you will notice lower yields.

Absolute IDEAL conditions with the right strain, c02, vegged to 2ft and lollipopped about a pound dry, maybe a bit over COULD be grown under 1 600w light, but I would Expect 8-10 ounces and probably end up with 12-14 plus all the popcorn buds and hash I would make after.

Anyways good luck with the grow, get some pics up if you can!

I have to disagree, Digital ballasts are supposed to cause the bulb to burn brighter, but if it is a noticable difference I'd be surprised.

I wish I could post some pics, but I don't have a camera. I wish I did because my girls are beautiful! I know all about light diminishment too. Thanks for your input too!:-o

Using Advanced Nutrients you can get 4 ounces per plant

Using there program you veg the plant unitl its 18-24in tall, then flower, and while using there nutirents, you can yeild 2lbs per light

Watch for yourself, they did comparison tests
YouTube - Nutrient Challenge

This medi grower mentions his yeild expetation during this interview. 4 OUNCES PER PLANT!!!!
YouTube - Urban Grower - Volume 1 - Lances Garden
I'm using Fox Farm, It's all I could get with my store credit, as for vegging, I could only veg them till the smallest one was 12 inches and the tallest one was 16 inches due to my disability checks stopping. It forced me to move my schedule up a couple of weeks so that I didn't have to stay here for another month. These fuckers are telling me that I can go back to work doing physical labor but I'm permanently disabled. A big :finger: goes out to the state disability punks.

Well, I've got a magnetic coil 1000-watt light, and two Lumatek 600 watt digital ballasts. The Lumateks don't put out the light that the 1k light does. But I think they definitely do put out more than 60% of the light. Even more important, the light that the Lumateks do put out is pulsed much faster than the 1k light (like 60 hertz, compared to 5 or something), and the plants seem to like that better.

Kush varieties are low yielders? My BEST yielder is Nirvana's Hindu Kush. I have heard some Kush afficianados say that Nirvana's HK is the best they've seen (especially for the price). Maybe I have a mutant high-producer phenotype for a Hindu Kush mother. It produces more than AK-48, Jock Horror, NYC Diesel, White Rhino, and I don't know about Papaya yet (got some flowering now, just begun).

My last crop was three AK-48s and three Hindu Kush, under one of the 600s (scrog). I got about 13 ounces, but 8+ ounces were from the three Kush plants. So I started a six-plant Kush crop to see if I can squeeze a pound out of the 600 watt light. Day 35 now and lookin' good. If it's not a pound dried at the end, I bet it's damn close.

Digital ballasts offer several advantages for hydroponic gardening that other types of ballasts do not. One is that they weigh less than other types, an important consideration when you are hanging several lights above your plants. Another is that they run silently and have a greater efficiency than other ballasts, both of which save you aggravation and money. Digital versions of ballasts have start up times that are quicker than other types of ballasts, and they come in compact designs, so you can fit more lighting into a smaller space.

These digital ballasts also allow the lamps to put out more light than with other ballasts. It will save you a lot of money over time to use a digital ballast that allows the grow bulb to put out twenty to thirty percent more light, yet will run on the same amount of electricity.

Digitals ballasts are also safer to use with hydroponic grow lights than other models. Digitals come with circuitry that cuts off in dangerous situations. They also produce less heat, thereby increasing the safety. Digital ballasts can be used with metal halide lamps or with HPS, or high pressure sodium, lights.

They're a little deceptive on how they calculate "20 or 30 percent more light". Yes, it's probably true, but that's because the bulb puts out a reasonable amount of light for a longer period of the bulb's lifespan compared to a magnetic ballast which puts out more or less the same light in the beginning, but diminishes in brightness over time *faster*. And most of the extra light is at the end of the bulb's life, often beyond when a grower would even want to continue to use the bulb. So, I would disregard this particular claim.

The other advantages are absolutely true: lighter, quieter, cooler ballast, faster-pulsing light. More light is true too...if you use the bulb until it's completely dead. Most people won't do that though, because those last 1 or 2 crops would be crap.

:-PThanks for the info Bongulator, it's nice to see someone who thinks Kush isn't a low yielder. Have you ever grown any bubba or banana Kush?
