1h/1h for veg

I think, if you’re really set on crazy time signatures, that you should roll with gaslight timing. I can’t imagine 1/1 on repeat would do any good for you.

I'd love to know any kind of flowering plant that wouldn't die on that schedule because it simply does not exist in nature.

He's going to learn the hard way that plants have evolved to grow in certain conditions, and his plan ain't one of them.

Or COBs or QBs. At least he would have efficiency and power and not look silly.
Didn't he say he had boards earlier?

No idea how many or what power, or what the other electrical use in his place is, but he doesn't seem to be able to grasp that 12 hours of, say, 100 watts load is, at the impossible end of the scale thanks to surges, 12 hours of 100w load whether that is over one 12 hour period or split into chunks an hour long.

He's going to find out though, as well as find out it's going to cost him a hell of a lot more due to his lights and probably his plants dying early

You can check out the gaslantern routine: 12h on, 5.5 off, 1 on, 5.5 off. Theres loads of opinions on this varying between: it will f-up your plants for sure; to: it will make your plants show sex early and make the transition to flower faster. YMMV
1 on, 1 off sounds a bit daft; the plants need time to shift between day and night.
Yep the Gas Lamp method. Works well. Good call.

I just assumed if he was worried about electricity, he was running HIDs.

This is too easy.

I run 16/8 for veg
And 10/14 for flower.
No difference in yield or size or in any way from 18/6 and 12/12

In fact... i plan to go 9/15 for flower for next run .

I looked back, third post in he said he's using boards.

He doesn't say what size, how many or anything, so I suspect he'd be better cutting the likes of his heating use in the rest of the house

Here in Belgium, electricity is not cheap either, over double the cost I see for the us which is a bitch. Luckily my missus is more disabled than me which means we get a "capped" price closer to us prices, and possibly lower than some.

If he wants to save money then maybe he should cut off a leg instead..

Or he just shouldn’t grow. Either commit to it or don’t. His prerogative, really.

The shortest cycle I have seen is used by some people with aquariums. It is a 4-hours on, one 1 off cycle. It takes algae that long to process light into food and if the process gets interrupted it needs to start from scratch.

Isn't there a technique for making s1's by altering the veg light cycle? Then when you flip, the plant is supposed to be stressed from the altered light schedule and self pollinates.

If you invested the money in qb's amd you still need to cut corners ive got questions... like.. are the qbs even helping you vs the normal 1kw hps? Are you trying to mask your power use hours from the power company?
If this is a personal grow the lights arnt costing more than $50 a month to run, so even if you cut it in half your only saving 25 bucks, aka a joke.

Maybe invest in solar panels an or wind turbines, shits actually pretty cheap, if your not on a personal scale and i cant imagin you are if your willing to trying something thats, in my opinion, really fucking dumb like 1 on 1 off.

Regarding costs, here in where I live a "regular" person, not one who is classed as "protected" due to disability/age/low income/etc, on a single tariff meter will pay approximately €0.28 per kwh including distribution costs and tax, or $0.33 per kwh. So that's almost $4 per day for a 1kw load on 12/12. People like myself who get the "sociaal tarief", those who are "protected", pay just over half that.

Now, we have no idea what boards he uses, or how many of them. What I do know is that my light pulling a maximum total of 200w on for 12 hours per day comes in at €0.43 per day including distribution costs and taxes, or $0.53 per day, thanks to the missus being classed as so disabled (I'm catching up with her). I don't run it "off peak" because it's in my utility room and we do need to get to the washing machine.

So I can understand where he comes from on electricity prices, running a BFO HID light is out of the question to me even at my tariff as I cannot justify that cost at all, but he has to understand that 12 hours use is 12 hours use whether that is in one block of 12 hours or 12 single hour blocks spread across the day. He MIGHT be able to save by using "off-peak" electricity if it is available with his supply, most are but some are still just a single meter tariff, but ultimately his "cunning plan" is going to cost him a shitload more due to failed grows and his boards lasting well under half as long as they should.

PS. As I was writing this I told the missus what his plan was. Now she knows squat about growing anything under lights, she can grow cherry tomatoes on the window but that's it, and she's finally stopped laughing.

Now im all well for new discovery

But this just doesnt sound like a good idea for all the reasons mentioned

I think it would live cause plants are tough but that doesnt mean it will like it
And i agree sounds like a recipe for herming out that girl

I'm not sure they would because they would be in a perpetual state of confusion, they wouldn't know what was going on and would shut down completely.

The bottom line is that we try to replicate nature when we use our own lights instead of the natural light from the sun, and if anyone can tell me one part of this planet where it naturally goes light/dark on an hourly basis I will eat your hat.

Ha ha nice :)

I still think they will live but they wont be happy
Simple as that.
But i agree it will be hard on the plant and the equipment no argument there

We do try to recreate nature but at the same time we bend it alot :) and top it;)

No need to eat your hat. But what about 5 hours daylight and 19 off?
Cause thats what we get in alaska
And houseplants are still alive lol
Then we go to 22 on a like 2 off in summer
