Maybe the solution is one or possibly preferably two more parties, along with the "loser" getting partial voting rights based on the proportion of support, like done in France? I think also town hall type legislation, rather than centralised needs to be done too.

Imagine the difference if Trump only had 57.25% say and Clinton had 42.75% objection.
Clinton got millions more votes though

So did Democrats in the house and senate

Way before that. The northern states didn't want to be outvoted by the slaveholding states. Slaves would have been forced to vote as they were told at that time. Fewer votes from the repressive south arguably got rid of slavery sooner and slowed its spread. Surprised me.
