can an led light match a 1000 wat hps

if cost was not an issue.. is there any led lights on the market that can match a 1000 Watt hps

I'd rather go with led for the obvious reasons.. lower running costs.. less heat etc.. but is there anything on the market that can match a 1000wat hps.. I'm not to bothered about the initial layout if it can do the job just as well

Look at hlg, chilled, timber, all have a flagship light that is currently state of the art. Building is easy and is the way to get the best at a reasonable cost. You should look at the build threads here and reconsider if you want to take that on

Quick update. I've pulled a few strings down at the brothy and I am very pleased to announce that @Kingrow1 is now eligible for attention seekers allowance. If he attends the first three appointments he will then be able to apply for a craver loan around Christmas time. Fucking Santa taking all the credit..

I have yet to see an led grow that matched hid. All the side by sides seem to be plagued with problems that effected the end game.
Constantly here it comes down to "my led grown has more frost" or "my hid grown has less larf" with no real proof one way or another.
The only truth i can seem to drag out of it all is that at 750w of led, you can almost equal a 1000w hid. If dealing with the heat doesnt concern you it would make more sense to wait for led lighting to progress further.
Seems so many here were on the 5 or 10w mono led train, followed by cobs, then strips, and boards. Is there really any savings when you are upgrading a light yearly at extremely high prices compared to hid lighting?

Once you have a well built/sourced cob/strip/pcb grow light, there is no need to upgrade it yearly. It should be good for 5, if not 8 or 10 years.

And yeah, you're right about the 75% number. I replaced 2 600s with 900 watts of cobs, while maintaining the same numbers in terms of final weight. Electricity here is expensive af, not to mention Socal heat and height limitations. Is it worth it? Yeah. I haven't ran the numbers, but I've shaved 400 watts off of that tent, and I've skipped buying 2 yearly Hortilux 6 bulbs.

LEDs definitely have their place, but on my new project(small licensed warehouse grow op) I went with 1000 DEs supplemented with 315s. But we have 14 foot ceilings and big AC units.

Also, yeah, people frequently upgrade their cobs and/or strips whenever the latest thing drops. it's not necessary, but most of those doing so just love nerding out on the tech.

In my experience you will get less overall weight with an hps compared to an led but the quality is better when using new technology. If cheap led there is no comparison in either.

I can run 3 tents with my light hoard and none are blurple.

The seed hoard is worse. Stupid sales.

Problem is 300w of less electric is not worth spending a few thousand dollars to get . You will never get a return on investment saving 300w it would literally take you years using a energy cost calculator i calculate that @ 13 cents per KWH running 12 hours a day (its 9 cents here) you will save 14$ per month, that's 168$ per year, so you will literally take 10+ years to see any kind of return on investment.

LEDs currently are not worth their investment, they give the same or less results as HID lights and cost a fortune more, unless you live off the grid or have some insanely expensive electric you will never see your money back.

Cob and quantum can keep a tent full and some are getting stellar results commercially.

Hps/mh is cheaper and air cooled hoods are better for heat dissipation than passive cooling.

But it will change. The new leds are pretty amazing. Boards strips and cobs. I love them all. And cmh. I have to run them all.

I grow for me. So a pound in a 4 x 4 three times a year is plenty.

4 plants each time.

I'm hitting over a pound(usually around 1.5 pounds) in a 4x4 each run with 2-4 plants using a single 600w hps, if i upgraded to LEDs i might save 100w of energy but i'd never get my money back, 100w of energy savings is like 5$ or less a month here, and a 500w LED rig would cost over a thousand dollars.

We pay a lot more for hydro electricity. Peak time is 26c/kw

My house hydro costs 180 a month and thats ac tv and grow lights.

But i am running 500 watts this time. All cob quantum srip. Lets aee what happens. Just flipped a week ago.

I used 315 watts before and now 480 to 580 watts in flower
