while i understand what your saying most people also can read the colour chart supplied with the drops (piss yellow for 6 ph for most brands). the beauty of reaction tests is theyre a set chemical reaction and shouldnt need meter to know what ph your getting from it. most labs require electronic units to be double checked with litmus strips to verify. we as growers use a universal indicator (actually a mix of a few indicators) so we can tell the difference between 5.5 and 6 but not 5.9 and 6.1. if you wanted you could order a few specific indicators like Bromocresol purple and get your ph accurate to the decimal point without ever touching a meter.
lol, hey I'm not telling everyone to throw their meter away, I'm just saying for anyone who hasn't got one and is jack of keep spending $$$$ that they don't need to. Maybe this is where it all went bent. This is a public forum and I know that newbies get very confused by all what seems very technical to them, they don't know what's important and what isn't, they know that whatever it costs that it's nothing compared to buying dope so they are prepared to spend what it takes, and some unscrupulous shops take advantage of this and diddle them. And because the newbie feels like he's taken up so much of the shops time that they can sometimes feel obliged to buy stuff from the shop like a $65 meter instead of the same one for 7 bucks.I’ll stick with my current ph meter n get some four done n dusted and it’s a lot less of a fuckaround
if ur saying something like what u are saying it sounds like what you’re saying is a opinion how is it not unless there was like idk what word here mmmmm like prof for lack of a better word

Mostly because soil has micro organisms that change and buffer the ph constantly where as hydro does not. It’s recommended that you let full hydro system ph float a little bit so you get a range of ph’s. Ie if you notice your ph rises after a few days start a little lower at say 5.6ish and let it walk up to 6.2ish before adjusting back down. But that’s mostly for guys who aren’t pushing the limits with their feed levels and are generally using those expensive meters that are accurate to 2 dp’s.I had to remove the link in the quote in order to post! even though it's now 1am. WTF
OK I'm back, got caught up, last post before I collapse.
I may have done that once but as you certainly know, as long as you've got the straw yellow your fine. Everyone everywhere on forums and seed suppliers and nutrient suppliers say 5.8 for hydro as the midpoint ideal. I've gone back to a higher level because I just don't buy 5.8 to me it's too low for Calcium, Magnesium and Iron. I'm sure there's a fall off and 5.8 hasn't done me any harm but no one has explained the science to me why hydroponic should have a lower pH than the recommended ideal for soil. Whatever I've upped it to 6.2. I think my monster crops of photoperiod from the 90's were higher because I remember it going a slightly greening yellow.
At 5.8 the drops look a bit to orangey 6.2 gave me the straw colour that I'm happy with.

Also that same $7 meter is listed on eBay for anywhere from $7 to $40 so it’s not just the hydro shops.lol, hey I'm not telling everyone to throw their meter away, I'm just saying for anyone who hasn't got one and is jack of keep spending $$$$ that they don't need to. I may as well say now that I think the same thing happened earlier.
Prices can have a funny effect on sales. I used to be a work shop supervisor for a tyre shop and we were the cheapest sellers of Maxxis in Queensland. Hardly anybody bought the 4x4 Maxxis because they assumed by the price that they are shit but would sheepishly spend $300 plus on Cooper's ect. Maxxis are a great tyre and Cooper's are over advertised low quality tyres but we still sold more even when I told the customer that they are paying for a low quality tyre .Maxxis bumped up the cost price and almost that day we started selling more maxis...the same tyre just more expensive...people see $$ and assume quality especially young fellas . Anyway that's my little take on what I think your getting atMostly because soil has micro organisms that change and buffer the ph constantly where as hydro does not. The beauty of the drops I find is that they allow a little bit of fluctuation but keep it well within range.
As for the hydro shop meter shit, have a look what they charge for base model blue lab or Milwaukee meters often 2-300% markup and bluelabs a New Zealand company ffs.
Also I believe the link thing has to do with how much rep your profile has received from other users not how long you’ve been around, could be wrong though.
Fuckin dole bludgerI get up when when I wake up. Every day's a holiday for me.
What’s up with ur yellow leaves? I just wanna know In case I encounter something like thatMight harvest a Strawberry amnesia tonight.
