HLG advertises their HLG 550 v2 500 watt ($1049) as a direct replacement for a 1k single end Hid.
Do you guys really think it really competes with a 1k HID or is it mostly marketing?

There's sellers on Alibaba that advertise 480 watt quantum based LM301B's for around $350 plus shipping.
Besides the longer shipping times I can get close to 3 lights for the price of one.
Whats the value of ordering from HLG besides being US based?

Thanks , I did that already, out of high school I went to work in a machine shop making parts for the space shuttle and back then we still had F-14s in service made replacement parts for those. We even had a top secret room where only machinist with security clearance could go work. But these days I am working on the grow lights and have designed a cold weather green house that I hope to build this year to get fresh greens in the winter. Then i have the fixtures that I start making if there is any interest. Almost the same as in the pictures posted but made a few changes since then.

Yeah they will for sure replace a HID and grow the same if not better. Find some journals with people using the HLG 550 v2 and see for yourself. Not only will you save on light wattage but you also have figure in AC load.
Alibaba is just like ebay so all kinda of different sellers some honest some not so much. So do some homework on the seller if you choose that route.

I don't even check prices anymore but if your gonna get a led you'd be stupid to pay that much for the same thing.

I posted the science. Fluence is a osram company. Pretty sure they know what they are talking about considering they are one of the top ten LED manufactures . But you never know could be a Co2 scam and they have tons of stock in the Co2 trade. I get that’s fluence and backed by science but I’m just curious because outside in natural sunlight, the sun puts out more than 700ppfd and plants only have ambient co2 there. So idk that alone makes me question fluences stance that more light above 700ppfd will not increase yield at ambient co2 levels, Im not buying it:/
