whats everyone’s opinion on the topic. If it were you would you run two 1000w in 8” dominator xxxl hoods or three 600w in 8” yield master hoods in a 4x8x7 tent? Heat ect is all a non factor I’ll have no problem keeping the temps down. Tent will be ran with 8 ladies vegged out to 12-16” and this is a flower only area. Let’s see those votes!

I'd probably go with the two 1000's for the simple fact the bulbs are cheaper to replace So like $150 vs $225 but thats a drop in the bucket at the end of the day. The only having to adjust two lights instead of three is also only a minor inconvienience.

[But I'd much rather have (3) 630 de cmh if it were in my budget however.]

Either way I think you'll be happy in the space long term though

I would also go with 2-1000's if environmental control isn't going to be a problem. You really can't beat 1000's on canopy penetration and yields.

Can’t beat 1000s IMO. I have plants that I can climb the stems are so strong

Would 3x 630s be needed? Would 2 not perform well?

Have you considered Cobs/Q-Boards?

I'd second the two 1K's. A 1K should cover a 4x4 area.
I just started getting back into the swing of things a few months ago after a 5 year hiatus so I’d like to stick with what I know. I wouldn’t mind doing a test run in the near future with a small scale cob setup to see if it’s for me.

Thanks for the input everyone, Sounds you all confirm my original thought of two 1k’s. I have some royal queen seeds northern light and green house seeds the church ready to roll so I’ll get to ordering lights. I already the 4x8 tent, fans, filter, and 600w in a 5x5 for veg.

All the more reason to do a little read up on the future of lighting! Especially if you have a four-figure budget. I'd look into that before you purchase your HIDs. That way if you do go the HID route, you'll have no doubt it was the best option for you. There's an LED section somewhere here. :)

Need is a strong word in this hobby. You don't need 3 600w hps to cover the area either. 2 would work fine as well, it just changes your optimal style honestly.
Ah I was talking about 630cmh, given a 315 covers 3x3 I figured two 630cmh would rock 4x8.

and yeah 3x600 hps is what I used to run when I ran HPS, but the guy who has my old set up now runs 2 instead and he's doing pretty well.

Nope. 3. you won't even get a 4x4 out of 1. Dudes going big time and you are telling him to do less.
Are you honestly going to sit here and say you can't scrog/sog with a 600w hps in a 4x4 tent and pull decently? No it isn't optimal but you can still pull decent numbers. Gtfoh...

@coreywebster I did suggest (if it were me and it were in the budget) to get 3x 630w cmh lights to smash umol/m2 in a 4x8 text.
