If I should run 1000 watts for it why not just run DE hps? My gavitas easily do a 5x5 or slightly more. And only cost 300 for 1kw.
Well the idea would be way more even light coverage, and higher light intensity. If you spread that 1000w out over the whole canopy it will more evenly impact your plants. If LEDs are as efficiant as everyone talks about it would give you about 25-20% more light intensity then the HPS.

This is the whole reason I'm thinking about converting to LED eventually. More light with better spread, I don't care about cutting wattage. My 1k HPS only costs me $30 a month to run. However its 1k over the center of my 4x4. I'm positive if I spread that same wattage out over my garden it would increase yields. Quality is already pretty top notch, but I"m always open to making things better if I can.

I havn't done this yet because its still pretty pricy, and my good old light has still been working.

Have you seen the thread about the Amare 8 bar light. Its got me really interested. Its 880w spread into 8 bars that are super adjustable.

If you really want to get Chinese style Quantum boards, I would at least consider Atreum lighting, https://atreumlighting.com/. The same 288.2 style boards with Sammy LM301B and HLG driver can be had for $200. The added bonus is if there is any issues they are located in Seattle.
Wanted to thank you again for the link. I'm really considering them for the bars with far red. They are a lot like the boards I was looking at and pretty decently priced. I'm thinking 3 of the 4ft strips or 6 of the 2 ft possibly.

You could probably run those at 150w/2800ma with a 140mm fan on the heatsink, dont you think?

You will be able to easily cover a 5x5 space plus you can adjust “ the overlap “ depending on instance between them , not static as the HLG 550 heatsink.
exactamondo,

HLG has the QB304's 2700K, board and heatsink for $59, thats not bad at all..

4 of those, the 600-54B driver, $410 + even those in 4 small PC fans to put on the heatsink if you wanted to, still super cheap for 5x5 coverage. Id like to do this, but Im happy with my Cob rig for now anyway. Might grab boards just to have, lol.

Need some aluminum angle, and your looking at $410

Thousand ways to skin a CAT ...

* not pointed at you thundercat ..... lol

Seriously easy to map out a rig OUTSIDE of the prebuilts. Nothing wrong with those but you can build something BETTER SUITED for your space. Plus be able to change things easily without being restricted to the form factor of the prebuilts.
