Germinating seeds how long should you wait?

i got into the habit of soaking seeds then putting them into the paper towel method
which seems to work very well.
however you do get the odd dud which im not sure how long to make sure its a dud.

Lately ive been throwing away seeds that dont pop within 48 hours, is this too soon?
i heard seeds can take up to a week to pop how true is this?

A week in a medium, not in a paper towel. 72hrs is the unwritten standard I believe, especially if unscuffed.

If you use hydrogen peroxide (about 2-3ml on a cup it will crack a shell within 48 hours even on bad seeds. I have tested it a few times and it have always worked.

Works for finding good acorns for flour, I dunno about weed seeds lol.

If a seed doesn't pop in 5 days, it's done.
I've never seen a seed pop I two days, 3 is average

I germinate the same way with good results but on rare occasion I've had seed take a week to produce a 1/2 inch tap root.we tend to get impatient with our girls sometimes and this leads to problems

I just always had the gut feeling that if the seed didn’t pop within 48 hours, it would end up giving me more trouble than it’s worth. Now, obviously this isn’t science or fact based lol, just a gut feeling.. some may say paranoia

48hrs after soaking in water for 24hrs is 3 days. In 3 days the way I do it, everything that's gonna pop... Pops.

I always start more than needed because, time is money. Culling is much easier than trying to fuck around with waiting on a few seeds to pop.

All clones come from seed. Have to start somewhere.

48 hours is way too soon to toss seeds. But real good genetics do pop within 48 hours.

How long should you wait? Longer than 48 hours. But that's planting them directly in soil. In paper towels they can stay too wet causing them to rot or too dry causing them to start to germinate and then die.

I agree.

Coffe filters work better if you go that route.

Throw them in a bottle of water and shake it up a little after a few hours. Seeds will fall to the bottom. Sit the bottle on a heating pad. Give them a coupe days tops they should all pop. I’ve hard very very few not pop.
