The Chinese Quantum Board Knock Off Builds

Hi guys,

do you have good tips for cheap shipping? I tried to search the forum, looks like there isn't a dedicated thread.

DHL etc. are way to expensive, the railway is better but the buyer has to arrange the shipment, usually via some middleman.

How do you minimize shippping costs? Is anybody dealing directly with China Post?

This is the email i got back from Rita

"
thanks for your email, I am Rita Fang from meijiu lighting, nice to meet you.
are you recommend by our customers?

for the best selling 800 board, details as below:
280x900x2.0mm , 3.0/W conductivity,2OZ, 16S50P, 129.6-372W, 43.2-49.6V, 3000-7500mA, 800pcs Samsung 561C s6 leds, the best price is USD 79.88/PC

Our standard packing is 6pcs/carton, so I quote you 6pcs.

Total cost for 6pcs: 75.89x6+shipping cost 128+processing fee 16.33=USD599.67, if you need more information, pls let me know."

Looks like $600.00 shipped to Canada for the 6 boards.

I used a 3mm alusheet for 250w fotops. And a fair bit higher hanging. I wouldnt recomend 250 w on their own, especially since you want ambient at +80F.

I wouldnt run the boards that hard. It only makes the coverage less even and you have to raise the lights. Ive been thru this discussion before; rather than focusing on how many watts you want id focus on the form factor. Make sure your boards literally covers the whole cannopy, with no more than about 6 inches between the boards and run the boards at around 150w each. Anything underneath board is going to flower like a mf-er. If you want more light on your cannopy you can just lower the light. You wont need that extra wattage if you make your fixture right. When you turn these boards up higher they tend to hotspot a bit.
We tested 3 Fotops lm301b at 250 w each against 5 fotops lm561c at 150w each; same wattage and area. The 5 board fixture won; not only in yield but also finished faster, faster to fade. The 5 board could also be kept closer to cannopy.
The higher efficiency of the lm301b should compensate for the 3 board fixture being run a bit harder so the light output should be similar between the 2. But the way how distribution worked out the softer run board won anyway. It was the standout fixture of many. May be noted that we work in a open space so no reflective walls which means a lower hanging fixture has some advantage.

In your case, wanting to add more wattage and maybe wanting some control of the situation: id go for 3 boards per 4x4 lengthwise, and one board across in between on a separate driver, maybe a hlg185. If you want better control over evenness of light could group the 4 side boards together on a hlg600 and the 2 middle boards on a hlg320. That way you can dim and dial in, you get some extra wattage with an extra 200w and you make the fixture go literally from edge to edge of your grow space.

Thanks for taking the time to write that up, lots of good info in that post for a LED newbie like me.

I like the idea of running the 4 outside boards on hlg600 and the 2 inners on a 320. Seems efficient

My main concern is giving up wattage, spending $1200 cad and going from 1230 watts down to max 920 seems counter productive lol and financially silly.

Are these boards that much more superior than CMH ?

Also was hoping to mimick the 1.4k HLG qbs another grower is using, this puts me way below that mark and with the size of the boards, im not sure i can actually fit the equivilent of 1.4k watts above a 4x8 table.

So how many QBs and what type are they your mate using?
And he's covering a 4 x 8 area too?

Hes using Hlg boards and yes, covering 4x8 table

edit: he was using 1 x 600h and 2 x 260w kits from HLG

he just replaced one of the 260s with another 600h

1 x 600h
2 x 260w kits

Ok so is it possible to fit the same amount of wattage/light intensity above a 4x8 using the fotops boards?

Or is he only able to do that because of the size of the hlg boards?
So it's 2 x HLG 600s + 1 x 260 = 10 quantum boards totaling 2880 leds
6 x FOTOP Boards x 800 = 4800 leds. That's an EXTRA 6 .5 quantum boards for starters.
Then there's the size of the fixtures to be taken into consideration .
29" x 15.5 for 1 x hlg600. 35.5" x 11" for 1 Fotop.
2 x FOTOPs 35.5" x 22" min without space between them, with a 4 - 6" gap 35.5" x 28", great coverage
So better spread on FOTOPs and a good few more diodes and around half the cost with less light lost to the walls as you can get them closer to canopy and a lot lighter in weight.
I'm not knocking hlg products in any way, I've bought a few lights offa them and they're a good company to deal with.

DHL may be expensive but is reliable.
China post can take months and may never get to where its supposed to ever.

Ive had packages in 4 days from china to UK.

The only time you want to be arranging your own transport in my opinion is when your an importer of large quantities and doing it regular.
Don't forget to negotiate when buying anything. Sometimes they will give you high shipping costs quote just to make a few extra quid.

Is there any way to avoid the processing fee from the shipping company - TNT or DHL. I would rather prepay the customs fees to get rid of their admin fees which in my case were higher than the actual duties/vat.
