I grew the shit out of some lettuce with a few $1 5000k led bulb lights with the diffusers taken off. I have links if needed.
I,m sure you did, but science tells the story of lettuce being a heavy red light user. Some university studies have shown certain varietals grow best with a 95/5 ratio of red to blue. Some think bolting happens from heat but it's actually spectrum shift to blue as the main culprit.

Do you happen to have any links for said studies? I'd love to see any research on spectral development for lettuce.

The 2 issues basic I have with the light are the immediate losses incurred by the lenses and I want to better understand the thermodynamic characteristics.
I dont think the lenses help to blend the light as they are focusing it, just a fact. I think there are lenses that would provide for better blending and id like to see the secondary opitc with a focal length of infinity.

How far is the MH from lettuce.
Afreed on heat tolerant varieties, these are blackseeded simpson and buttercrunch, IIRC only mildly heat tolerant.

Your real world testing conditions are invaluble. If you can do anything with manual white balance, pics of what the distribution look like up close (like a sheet of paper 6 in infront of the light), and what heatsink temps are in relation to envirnmental temps, I would find the information worth evaluating.
:peace:
Ok, so we start with temps - as you can see ambient in the tent is 75

This is the hottest reading I could get shooting through the grills at the heatsinks

Hottest temp I could get shooting at the lens side and all around the case

Now for the Spectrum discussion - I think most know I am a big guru for "secret sauce" spectrums. Well if this one grows out as hoped then @HydroGrowLED better bottle that shit!! I have played with a good handful of spectrum ideas but would have never assumed this combo of diodes would emit light in the color it does.

Now for the distribution as requested up close and "on paper" I will say that these lenses are a different animal than what I have encountered on other mono led lights. There is almost a magnifying effect, not just focusing. They are bubble shaped, not flat on the emitting surface.

And once you get to about 10" from the lens you have a very homogenous blend

There are 2 "boards" right? Do you know which one the mono colors on the vertical piece of paper? Looks like a difraction/reflection or possibly an interference from the 2 lenses. I suspect the spots are coming from the board that is pictured.

I am tearing the light apart, not tearing it down, I want to make that distinction.

How would a user know if the lenses are misaligned?
It would be painfully obvious. There is only one position the lenses can be placed in where they are aligned with the LEDs. If the lens is misaligned it would be angled about 60 degrees offset from where it should be. The way the lights are engineered and assembled, you don’t need to worry about alignment.

Not sure I'm understanding - you can see the paper is acting as a divider between the two modules.
That is heavy Card Stock paper - not printer paper

And thus far what are your conclusions?

Unlike some of you I don't give a fuck who thinks their going to turn on me or for what - get a sack and get off my thread! :peace:
Touche my man, I agree 100%. Not sure where the sack came into play here but I wish you the best of luck on your grow.
