The BBs just go through. Try stopping the bleeding from a direct hit on that.
There are many types of injuries.
BBs do not leave as large of a wound channel, both temporary stretch and permanent crush.
Shotguns are especially lethal because you have multiple wound channels, and when temporary stretch cavities intersect, it turns flesh into jelly.

I was an ER nurse for 17 years. Then operating room. We preferred 9s over .22s. A .22 long rifle leaves some hellacious wound tracks. Easy to miss a bleeder. Shotguns only if up close. Lots of holes but we retrieved most with no incision. Just a lot of time.

If you want to actually stop someone use large calibers. Especially magnums.
Bigger is better to a point, but .357 magnum has better stopping power on humans than .44 magnum.
The statistics were compiled back when most police preferred revolvers.
Not sure if it's still in circulation, but there's a good book called "Handgun Stopping Power" by Evan Marshall that contains all the data.

Bear relocation workers in MT carry .357 magnums as sidearms. For every reason.

I will protect my garden.
And you will go to prison for murder.

Deadly force is never justified for protection of property, only for protection of life. If you have no reason to fear for your life, if they're not coming after you, it is illegal for you to fire upon them.

So go ahead, dumbass. When you get the death penalty for premeditated murder, which is what it's going to be for killing a kid over a fucking pot plant, don't say you weren't warned...and forgive us for pointing at you and laughing.

Jackass.

In the event anybody ever breaks in to my house, I'm grabbing my 870.

It's a guaranteed hit within 25 feet, which is where you'll be fighting. Whoever gets hit isn't going to be bothering you again.

And the big bonus: any projectile from it loses too much energy by the time it goes 100 feet to do any real damage to anybody, which means all my neighbors are safe if I miss.

Always and forever, a simple, plain, solid shotgun is the best home defense weapon on the planet.
Too true. Edit: nothing better than a shotgun for home defense. And, I know less about guns than anyone here.
