Illinois prep work advice please and thank you

As many of you know, next year in Illinois medical cannabis patients will be able to grow up to 5 plants with no weight restrictions.

I have a wide open field I am planning to plant in. I am making a hoop house/greenhouse to keep the plants in during the Spring and then Fall. I have been told that in my area, with a heat index in the 100s F with high humidity most of the summer, you need to ventilate the hoop house. I've decided I'll just replace the poly with shade cloth in the summer.

One of the big questions that I am pondering is, what strains to use?

I mostly smoke at night to unwind and help me fall asleep, but I do like a clear headed, uplifting strain for the weekend. This makes me want to plant 3 soothing plants and two upbeat plants.

The two things I have looked for, besides the smoke effects are, is it mold resistant and can I harvest mid-October or earlier?

For my uplifting strain I am thinking about planting Strawberry Lemonade from Barney's Farm.

For my soothing strain I am looking at Mazar x White Rino by World of Seeds. I choose this strain because it has higher CBD from the other strains I considered.

Both of these strains are supposed to be mold resistant and it is a plus they have large potential yields.

Both are tall so I will be topping and lst.

Do any of you have advice for me. I am still early on in the process and can change course.

Soothing runner-ups:
Kushberry-DNA Denetics
Pink Kush- Barneys Farm

Uplifting runner-ups:
Cinnex-elev8
Blueberry Headband-Emerald Triangle
Blue Hash-Dinafem
Green Crack- Humbolt

Those sound like good choices. I love to grow Dinafem seeds, can’t grow wrong with those. Just read the descriptions and pick ones that sound like what you want. Good luck man

I haven’t grown hash plant but have smoked it and it was good. You can usually trust the breeders description especially with Dinafem and greenhouse seeds etc. The big name companies never usually let me down.

I was under the impression that you could not grow outdoors. I was talking to a friend from Illinois who also mentioned how they had all these very restrictive conditions under which a patient could grow. Such as it having to be indoors, secured under lock and key. He could have been wrong about that, im going to look into it.

You can grow any strain you want during an IL summer. Try some different strains out and find out what works best for you. If your growing outdoors for the first time I would check out the thread in the "outdoor" section "yeah it's bud worm season".

Get familiar with a product called Monterey BT which you'll need to spray your plants with if don't want to lose those outdoor crops. Just a heads up, as it's one of the issues you'll want to be ready for.

From how I'm understanding it I'm good to go. I am very rural.

"dwelling, residence, apartment, condominium
9 unit, enclosed, locked space, or piece of property not
10 divided into multiple dwelling units shall not contain more
11 than 5 plants at any one time"

I'll just put a fence around it with a lock.

Good stuff, it seems like as long as its out of public view and under lock n key you are good to go. Exciting times!!

Why not just use the plastic cover in the spring for low temperature protection and leave the ladies under fun sun with no anything covering them, getting well ventilated by wind till fall/late summer? More direct light the better during veg. I'm just covering mine now because of alot of rain, humidity, fog and dew the past week.

We have strong winds and hale. The shade cloth will let wind through but block hale and strong winds. Plus it will cool the plants down on those 100° days. I am looking at 30% shade cloth.

Just to add to this, I am in SE Wisconsin, outdoors in the ground, and while spring and fall weather can be concerning, don't overthink it.

Last season I had my 1 of my girls in ground until the first week of November (Sativa). A couple of frosts can be beneficial. Gives some color and helps with plumping up the buds.

I am looking into a DYI greenhouse for next season that I can use in spring and fall to protect from freezing.

I overthink everything. Haha

The reason I am paranoid about mold and the weather is because last year I planted a few Shark Shock CBD in the woods and had to harvest early because the buds got mold.

When you can tend your crops on the daily, you are always ahead of those problems if you are on your game.

You'll learn alot here. And that will ease a ton of your concerns.

Where in Illinois? If you are within 20 miles of Lake Michigan, the lake is your friend in the fall. Keeps those frost at bay. In the spring, an absolute enemy!
