Advice for colder garage

Have a 5x5 tent in a garage that will be getting a little colder during the winter. Probably staying around 20-30 degrees. The inside of my tent currently is staying around 60-70 and it will definitely be getting colder!

Without using a heater is there any way I could keep some heat in the tent or even insulate my garage more? Have seen some things about throwing insulation pieces under the tent to raise it so I will look into that.

Insulation pieces under the tent will help some but without insulating around the tent you will quickly have the same temps as you have now. So some sort of insulation plates around the tent will definitely do the trick.
Alsl run the lights during the nights.

Gotchya.. Hmmm.. Im running LED so not producing too much heat there. May just have to bite the bullet and look into a heater for the garage or something. Just dont want to use too much electricity as im running on one outlet currently.

I have the same setup with the temps getting colder in my garage. I use a small radient heater connected to an inkbird day and night temp controller so it only turns on when its needed.
Is there a reason you don't want to use a heater?

Im only working with a single 15 amp circuit currently and I dont want to push it with a heater. I need to pick up an extension cord and im thinking I have another outlet i can run from and put a heater/timer on that. How many watts is your heater?

Keep in mind that electric heaters use lots of electricity. A simple heater easily runs at 2000w.
I would advice a petroleum heater (or kerosine heater don't know how you call it i'm from Belgium ;))

Propane heater. Propane burns clean and produces CO2 as a bonus.

One solution is have two tents on a flip so one is on when the other is off. Each with HID lighting. Use one tents heat to warm the one that has the lights off.

Downside is the propane heaters create moisture. I would go with a simple space heater that you can set on low so it only uses 500-600watts, that should be plenty and the easiest solution.

You are right about the humidity. most already have a dehumidifier in play. honestly my co2 generators (natural gas) help me with humidity because it's so low here in Colorado that I have to run swamp coolers in my room to add humidity otherwise it sits in the 20's. So in my situation the added humidity is a bonus, probably not the case for many unless in an arid state like Colorado.

If trying to keep the power bill low for stealth as is required in some states then the propane or natural gas is perhaps a better option.

Either heat source will work.

Obviously anyway one can use lighting thats growing weed as the heat source trumps other methods of heating. Along with a veg room, I have two flowering rooms in my basement. They are on a flip. Each is 10kW. Because of this I have radiant floor heating in the winter (not so fun in the summer lol) so we only run the furnace during a harvest or if it's below 0F and windy.

A very efficient solution may involve running two tents on a flip and recirculating air between them with a tiny about of fresh air allowed to maintain CO2 levels. May not be right for this grower but perhaps someone will benefit from that setup idea.

Dehumidifiers also add heat FWIW. Can be helpful when lights are off.

Insulation is always good. If possible insulate the whole garage, especially the door. Then a little heat in there would keep things nice and toasty. Thats probably about as much expense and work as setting up another tent but without the extra weed, well maybe not that much money but you get my point.

Just build a 2x6 frame aaround the tent, insulation vapour plastic done.Look around new home construction there bins are full of all what you need.

I am actually in Colorado as well! Currently im staying in the 40s for humidity but it may drop more once it gets deeper into winter. The main reason i was trying to go without the heater is due to electricity and im only working on one 15 amp circuit currently..although i think i can bring an extension cord for a small heater on a timer.

I am also running LED so not as much heat coming off that.. I think HPS in this situation may actually have helped me heat wise a bit. How big of a tent for veg do you think i would have to run for it to be able to produce enough heat to help things out?

I like this idea....i may think on it more. I'm renting so i dont want to do anything too permanent. May be a good idea to seal off the garage a little bit more though!

Yeah man id look into getting hps lights . they will provide heat and you will probably like them better any way
Damn...just dropped 350 on this LED haha.

Granted I do have 2 hoods, 2 dimmable ballasts, and would just need bulbs I think to get them running.

My problem with HPS is the amount of wattage used. Im currently trying to run on just one 15Amp circuit. Running 1k watts on that takes up a big bulk of it instantly. The LED running on a comparable 1k watts only eats up about 500. Any ideas for that problem?

Heating mats!
The ticket!
A 4x2 foot heating mat is 100 watts. Puts the heat energy right where you(they) want it.
Put it on a timer for lights off, or better, a thermostat to come on at 65 or so.
Cool air, warm roots, they love it.

I will look into these! sounds like a great idea. I have a heat mat under my current clones and they seem to be enjoying it. Temps are staying around 60-65 which is lower than id like but i assume the cups the clones are in are a tad bit warmer.

This is ideal.

Going to look into this as well. I guess the main problem here as well is the one i keep running into. Lack of circuits to use! Although i think i could run a small veg tent off of an outlet upstairs, with an extension running down to it.

Thanks for the ideas!

The idea of this is, arrange the timers so that only one light is on at a time... one circuit.
