Hello,
I have read all this tread. thank you all for the input I have four tents (4*4) and been planing to buy leds like bcblondes, but this tread and my wallet changed my mind.
Now I was planing to buy fotop800 (3 boards per tent with hlg 480 or dimmed 600 ) from meijiu. Price was from 80 to 128 us dollar.But shipping is expensive, 6boards 164usd,when 40 qb288 is 80usd both dhl . so i made my mind to buy qb288,
8 boards per tent, two rows with 4 boards per row with two HLG-240H-48A or HLG-320H-48A(dimmed). My idea ran than those boards softly, like rocket soul recomend (50-60w per board)
the prices from kingbrite was
QB288 Board lm301B: 26usd/pcs;
QB288 Board lm301B+epistar 660nm: 27usd/pcs;
QB288 Board lm301B+CREE XPE2 660nm: 55usd/pcs
QB288 Board lm301H: 28usd/pcs;
QB288 Board lm301H+epistar 660nm: 29usd/pcs;
QB288 Board lm301H+CREE XPE2 660nm: 57usd/pcs;
I thought about buying lm301h boards but when meijiu replied about the prices qb288 i got confused..
samsung 5630 25 usd
samsung 301B 38 usd
samsung 301h 50 usd
samsung 301h+660nm IR LED 50 usd

price from kingbrite lets say for lm301h
is 28usd and from meijiu is 50usd, the difference is so big that
its hard to believe me that Ill would get the same chip? maybe, some one could give me some wisdom here?
my plan was to add some deep red strips with another driver. But i don't know how much do I need (i am thinking about 4 strips per 4*4 50cm Osram SSL from ledtech.de ), AND do i need to add only deep red or deep blue too? qb288 cri80 and probably ill choose or mix some boards of 2700k, 3000k,3500k. I have been looking in led-tech.de and cutter.com.au, cutter looks a bit cheaper, but with shipping and taxes..? I'm from eastern europe (EU). tread mostly recomends buying extra 660nm from cutter.com.au.., Cutter has so many options for 660nm, that I wouldn't knew what to choose.
I have small tents for veg 70*70cm (2.3*2.3),would one qb288 running at 60w do the job for veg ? and what qb288 choose for veg, 4000k?
And lets finish with the drivers... where to buy? I'm from eastern europe (EU), Mouser looks like the cheapest in eu ? any experience ? and which is more convenient HLG with A or B in real life?

Yeah research is key. When you msg them make sure you ask about cri rating, bin rating for the diodes, spectrum tests and PPFD testing and ask for some proof if it sounds too good to be true. Unfortunately with China and the internet, anything can seem possible/legit. Eventually you’ll just have to pull the trigger on something if Chinese market QB’s are the way you wish to go.

I've seen that brand before but have no personal experience with them to go off of. Judging on the companies that have the highest amount transactions, you’re looking at Meijiu or Kingbrite. But it seems like the Shenzhen province of China definitely has a high number of diode and pcb board manufacturers. My opinion is to stick with the tried and tested manufacturers as shown on this forum so your not gambling (as much) with your money.

Its really hard to research a supplier, no matter what you ask and what "proof" (such as photos of package from samsung with Bin markings). When this started out with a few china threads some people did par mapping, like @Moflow on the fotops which was what made me do our first purchase. Anyone mapped one of these new boards, with reds and uv, against a hlg board recently?

Id be very interested to see that testing. From a legit sources as well . KB wants 581 usd shipped to Canada for 6 x qb288 3000k with cree 660 + 6 x individual heat sinks + 3 meanwell hlg-240-48ab. I’m wondering if I can buy 3 of the 240w kits and simply cut the heat sinks in half saving me an easy $150.

Check out moflows fotop thread thru search, hes got some par mapping which convinced me for the old grow.

Another alternative to heatsinks is mounting the boards to alu sheet a la 550. If you got a dec nt alu supplier the only thing you need from china is the boards, get drivers from somewhere you can have them serviced under warranty.

Sorry to barge in but I've been looking at these from kingbrite, and I know nothing about led. They say they're 272 not 288 boards and the spectrum looks a little different than anything I've seen so far. Any suggestions?
it’s the same deal pretty much. They’ve just taken out some of the 301’s to insert the 660,730 and 385 diodes.

I have a metal supermarket just down the street. My thought process with the individual heat sinks was to reduce any mechanical stress with raising and lowering the boards. If I was to go with a big sheet of aluminum, what thickness do you think would provide sufficient cooling capabilities while maintaining a rigid platform for the boards? It would have to be a 44” x 44” sheet to evenly space the 6 qb288 boards.

The 550 uses 4mm thick i believe.

We tried both fotops and 4qbs on a 3 mm sheet (about 350x 1000mm) and it was more than enough disipation for 65iwh watts per board/250w total.

For a 4x4 like you id do 2 4x2 fixtures with sheet metal: 4 x 301b qbs per sheet (about 240 in total). That way you can maintain flexibility if you have a change in situation.

Driver: dont use china, digikey works fine and dont give you any extra shipping if you shop for more than 50$. HLG240 / 320 on each fixture. If you wanna go cheap (and remote driver, outsiide the tent) try lrs350 whhich is a cheapo alternative.

Spectrum: id rec 3000k 90cri

i was planning on building a 6 board setup and spacing them out to get a somewhat even 800-1000 PPFD range across the whole 4x4 space. An experienced grower friend is helping with co2 addition which is why I want the highish PPFD Rating. From the mapping tests I’ve seen the 550’s fall short beyond the 3x3 range and I’m looking for complete light saturation for the tent.

I was going to add strips of blue and IR on the underside of the aluminum angle stock as well as add 4x13w uva/b CFL’s bulb fixtures in the appropriate spots.

Whats the full details of what youre planning:
Budget
Space (4x4, but what height, tent?, Access thru all sides?)
What cooling, ac or vented?
Full cycle or flower?
Is ot colder or warmer where you live?

Budget is roughly $1000, 8 foot tall tent, flower only, fully accessible from all sides, 12,000 btu AC unit cooling the room that the tent is in. Plan is to mount drivers externally as well. I live in Ontario so cool or cold except for June July and August.

Shit, if you got a grand for lights only you can do some serious shit.

The way i see it you can go either go 2 bars of 4 qbs with a 320-350w driver or 3 bars of 3 qbs on a 250 driver. 6 will work as well but if your working with alusheet for disipation id keep my boards to under 100w. The real trick with using aliboards its to leverage diode count; get 2 boards to do the job of one. Apart from better efficiency you get better spread, lower hanging height, lower operating temps and easier to handle disipation.

Thats 8-9 qbs at about 30$ each and about 100-150 in drivers, assuming price and availability of 90cri is the same. Drivers: either digikey or arrow or something local.

If you want strips: you can some IR/far red for end of day treatment but id be carefull with having to much as it can lead to stretch. Blue: can be good against stretch or to balance out supplementary red.

The thing to understand is if you want a steady 1000ppfd across your cannopy is most of it, especially towards the edges and corners, needs to almost underneath a board. It would take between 600-700 watts.

Also, its no picknick keeping a 1000ppfd, led lit cannopy fed with nutrients, if its your first go shot for 700-800. Whats your plan for controlling the environment?

Yeah that’s why I was thinking of going with the individual heat sinks so I can crank the boards up to their 120w rating. My grow buddy was mentioning the same thing with the amount of feed needed for a steady 1000 PPFD which is why he recommended a flood and drain table. Still contemplating whether to go flood and drain, controlled drip emitters or old fashion. I’m worried the flood and drain style will take up too much vertical height. The tent is setup and ready to rock minus the lights and co2 set up. 8 inch exhaust fan / 6 inch intake fan on a inkbird controller. Humidifier and dehumidifier on another inkbird controller. Still need to pick up some small fans but that’s about it.

looks quite similar to what i used in a 3x3 with a hlg320 1400b, had really no temp problems or reaching a 1000 ppfd when goin near.
This setup was quite nice but i would reinforce the boards more if i would build it again, less mechanical stress.
I simply go with strips for my next, easier to mix add other color strips and i think it will last longer for me.
