Get an 8x8 tent.

Hang four 1000 watt HPS lights, each over a 4x4 foot area. SE is fine for that space.

Number of plants totally depends on you. Less plants = more veg time. More plants = less veg time.

With a trellis easy access will be an issue. Maybe two tents that are 4 x 8?

One might run a flood and drain setup so there is no need to access the plants at all or worry about drainage. Put the reservoir/s outside the tent.

If you wanna go with LED, get good ones.

If you don't have a trellis then support becomes a major issue. Personally I hate running without a trellis but access in a tent can be problematic.

Another option is ditch the tent. Use the whole room. Then you can have more space to move around the whole perimeter and even leave aisles between 4x4 or 5x5 segments.

I recommend the Timber lights if you want a LED thats a true HPS replacement. Just go by their coverage area charts.

my 2c: if you're just growing for personal use you don't have to go so big. i know people here are just trying to help, but if its for you and one other person, a 4x4 and small veg space will be more than adequate.

i run a 4x4 in my spare bedroom, i also have my office in here where i have my desk and all my guitars and my snowboards and stuff and i pull more bud out of this 4x4 than i know what to do with.

A timber Redwood VS is perfect for a 4x4 area, so four of those for an 8x8.

I'm definitely not questioning you Renfro, but I think HLG makes as good of lights as Timber. But again, I know you know a lot more than my dumbass.

Compare the total PPFD on the two and the Timbers put out more. Their Fatty VS is a real DE HPS replacement.

One thing with LED lights, protect them from foliar sprays or sulfur vaporizers and the like. You can really diminish the output fast if you let those get at the surface of the LED.

The QB's are fine lights. Just get your wattage per square foot right either way. You just need more QB's to get the same coverage area and intensity. Go by true wattage and keep the watts per sq ft numbers between 35 and 40. I personally think the QB is best for about 13 sqft, not quite 16, thats at 35 watts per sqft.

It's 855 watts total with all 5 HLG boards (2 260 Rspec's, a 135 Rspec, and 2 100's). This round I have one 260, the 135, one 100, and a 315 cmh running. As soon as I get an electrician out here, it will be 2 260's, the 135, and 2 cmh's. I like the versatility of numerous lights vs one big one.
